We camped at Newton House Farm nearby (highly recommended) and walked down to the waterfall viewing area 530pm so the cafe was closed unfortunately.
My daughter and her friends enjoyed playing on the stepping stones on the river further upstream.
Regards the waterfall itself it was worth a look and photo but it’s quite far away down a deep ravine and as far as we could tell not possible to get up close to it which was quite disappointing.
Maybe worth some investment to build steps leading down to the waterfall ??
The area is suitable for a short visit and walk around, definitely not a full days worth of interest.

Beautiful waterfall , very tranquil. The tea room was outdoors and had toilets. Reasonable prices. Free car park.
The walk back up from the car park is very steep. Only go if you are able to climb a steep hill.

I'd seen the very enthusiastic reviews here and thought we'd try to find this places. Harder than I thought as the most direct route from Whitby was closed for repairs, but we made it in the end. We got one of the last places in the nearest car park, fortunately at around 3:30 on a weekday in August. There's then a quite steep roadway down to the restaurant - maybe 10 minutes walk. And they did have a good range of cakes and hot drinks at reasonable prices so we enjoyed that. But as for a view of the waterfall - rather disappointing. From their seating area you can clearly hear the falls, but at this time of year the foliage obscures almost all of it from all of the potential viewpoints that we tried. We saw the track down to the foot of the falls but it looked a bit tricky and in the end didn't venture down.

Had a lovely circular walk and climbed down to waterfall which was worth it. Had refreshments at the cafe which staff so friendly and reasonably priced

Thank you so much to Judy s for her review. I have mobility issues, couldn't get in the main car park, the overflow was far too far away for me to consider so tried to find this disabled parking she referred to near the house. No signage. Tried the "no unauthorised vehicles" road and just as I was considering turning around we found it. Really needs better signs.
Trip advisor asked who I travelled with, it was my 22yr old son but that wasn't an option so I've ticked the travelling with teens box.
The river and waterfall are beautiful. Idyllic scenery. No signs to view the waterfall so followed the sound and hoped for the best.
Impressive toilets, was honestly expecting a portaloo!
Food was lovely, scones were lovely and fluffy, however I would've expected clotted cream with them rather than whipped cream. Jam was lovely, tasted home made (actually has flavour unlike shop bought!)
Dogs welcome, plenty of seating and an extensive menu to choose from.
Highly recommend. Just needs more signs (disabled parking, where's the tea room, where are the toilets, where's the viewing point of the waterfall etc).

We had a lovely walk and cake! The staff were very friendly and we really enjoyed our visit. A must is the scone! Car park was quite busy so we just parked in the overflow car park and walked down the hill.

Setting takes some beating: beautiful walk on the coast to coast path through well maintained Littlebeck Nature Reserve. An instagrammer’s dream of waterfalls and associated nature/hermitage/troll bridges etc.
Lovely rustic spacious open air and covered wooden seating area and immaculate toilets (with fairy lights!).
We arrived at a busy time and joined the queue. Lots of anxious families hoping for bacon butties before the 1pm cut off.
Service was friendly and super efficient. Good choice of drinks, quality sandwiches and cakes at decent prices.
Very welcome stop off on our circular walk and definitely worth a visit!

This is such a beautiful place. The walk is fantastic and the tea garden is gorgeous. We spent all day here enjoying the food, the waterfall and the stream to paddle in.

Stopped here for a rest while on a walk.
There's no inside space but lots of outside seating so lovely on a hot day.
I had a really good latte, lovely taste and perfectly hot.
Also had the Mediterranean vegetable tart (fresh and warm out of the oven) which was amazing. Lovely pastry (not too thick and not too thin!) and plenty of filling and a really god taste.
We also got a scone with jam and cream which was really good. Perfectly cooked, didn't crumble while preparing it and very nice taste.
Highly recommend this place and we will be back!

Brilliant place , stunning views, but the food was amazing! All home made , the bread and scones are so good!! Very friendly and good that everything is recycled. A must if you’re in the area .
