Really unimpressive. We were lucky to get it for free via NHS Thanufest. That said, eve if it were free, I wouldn't go back. A lot of wandering about, most rooms closed off.

Our group of 8 visited Althorp on July 29. We were greeted by the property manager who helped us with all our lunch baskets and got us situated in the picnic area. What service! We then toured the home and it was spectacular as ever. This was my third visit and I am captivated every time. It was great to tour again through the eyes of my first time friends. Diane Springett (docent) was a delight to talk with. She provided great insight about the home and its ancestry. We then took the lovely walk to the oval lake. It was quiet, peaceful and tranquil. This full day spent at Althorp never disappoints. The staff are eager to provide personal hospitality at every turn. Although I have visited in the past, this was by far the very best. Althorp is a must see! It was our favorite tour outside of London. Thank you, Viscount Spencer, for opening your home every summer.

Hi myself and my husband went to visit Althorp house and Princess Dianas burial site in witch I was very saddened by the state of the burial grounds it really left me heart broken for Diana to be honest I just couldn't believe what I saw the lake where she is buried looked so unkept all the trees looked over grown Nd the surrounding areas it looked more like a swamp the earl should be ashamed of himself and you can tell no one visits her grave going off the little boat that was covered in moss Nd looked like it had wood worm I know I'm ranting but I am honestly heart broken by this and very saddened that our beloved princess Diana would be put in that place and it feels like she's forgotten I'm sorry if I offend anyone but please this is my honest opinion of her burial place it didn't feel peaceful it felt for me more sad and lonely her son's must do or say something to the earl rectify this

The house is set in English countryside with sheep grazing peacefully in the fields. The main avenue has been planted with 36 oak trees, to signify her age when she died.

The house is very grand and visitors are able to walk around it on a self-guided tour. Each room has knowledgeable staff/volunteers to answer any questions you may have. Lady Diana Spencer was in her early teens when her father inherited the house from his father and she lived there for a few years before going to London to work. Diana’s bedroom is open for public viewing and it is very grand, not the space of a typical teenage girl. I wondered if she’d been able to put posters on the walls!

The cafe sells a variety of sandwiches, cakes and drinks which are reasonably priced.

Finally, after a short walk from the house is the lake and island, upon which Princess Diana was laid to rest. It is very peaceful and calm. There is a temple/memorial with a bench, where several bouquets of flowers and personal
messages had been placed. On the wall are two quotations, one from Princess Diana and the other from her brother, Earl Spencer.

Althorp House is well worth a visit. Don’t forget to look for the tree planted by Nelson Mandela (a scarlet oak).

We drove for over 3 hours to get here. Parked in car park which is a field and fair old walk. Very disappointed with the place we came because of Diana read the reviews and wish we hadn’t bothered. No mention of her in the house and terrible portrait of her at the top of the stair case what’s that all about? Is that really how Earl Spencer wants us to remember her? He not doing himself any favours by not showing us Diana’s items which I understand they displayed years ago. Gift shop was full of his books and Tat cafe expensive but we brought our own picnic and glad we did. The house itself is boring with lack of information you get the feeling they reluctantly open the house up to visitors. Tbh they would be better off focusing on having an exhibition dedicated to Diana bring out all her stuff so we can look at it away from the house itself then and pay separately to go into the house I suspect attendance will drop like a fly. Highlight was going to the oval lake where you could see Diana memorial grave on the island from the banks very peaceful. I wouldn’t go back not worth the £25 save your money and remember our Diana how she was, a wonderful lovely heartfelt lady!

Enjoyable 10 minute walk up the Avenue to the house
which is breathtaking at every visit. The signage is
lacking - more obvious disabled and accessible parking
signs are needed as many elderly people said the walk
from the field is too far and it wasn't obvious they could
drive inside the gates so ask at the gate like I did on
behalf of an older couple who'd struggled halfway up
the avenue before turning round.
The cafe has lovely coffee and cakes to enjoy.
The tour guides are absolutely marvellous, younger and
more mature who speak with such enthusiasm and
passion - really stood out as exceptionally
knowledgeable. The walk to the lake is stunning but
again more signage needed as it not obvious at all and
some paths you can walk down but you wouldn't know
I preferred the old layout of the house where you walk
through the ground floor rooms - much better flow and
feel of the house and similarly from the dining room
through the oak bedroom before - not the same now
when multiple people are trying to peer in and not as
covid safe being in close proximity.
Also noticed that not as many rooms had room guides in
as before which is a shame as there was no one to ask
about particular detail in every room.
The shop could do with more branded Althorp items
hand wash, shower gel, hand cream etc and I heard
two people enquiring about magnets which had sold
Out.
All in all pricey but a lovely family homely feel in
stunning parkland.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit, though I agree with other reviewers that £25 is a princely sum for what there is to see, the house is delightful but compact. The walls are chocker with ancestor portraits plus some more modern pieces, it has a nice feel & you can envisage it as a family home. Lots of rooms are gated off, so access is limited & photography isn’t permitted inside. The gardens aren’t fancy, just parkland, but the lake, & island where Diana rests, is rather lovely. Discreet. There is no longer a Diana Exhibition, it finished in 2013, & I like that the current Earl hasn’t sold his soul to tourism by mawkishly capitalising on his famous sister, but a few more references to her
would be welcome, as, let’s face it, she’s the reason most of us have heard of Althorp. Aside from a portrait or two & the odd family photo, Diana is a slim presence. Althorp opens to the public for a limited period, July through August.
Disabled parking is close to the house, but the regular car park is a 15 minute walk.

Although there was 10% discount because it was the last month of opening this year, I felt the ticket price was very over priced. £25 reduced to £22.50 was still extortionate. The field used as the car park is a long way from the house but this was explained on the web site. There is disabled parking closer but there is no lift in the house so wheelchair users limited to downstairs I would imagine. The stables houses the cafe and gift shop - both very expensive. £2.75 for a cup of tea is, in my opinion, expensive. £4.50 for a tiny tub of ice cream, I don’t think so thank you. Absolutely coining in on captive market. Picnics are allowed and I would very much recommend you take your own food and drinks if you do decide to visit.
The house was full of old paintings with little or no explanation of who the people were. Many of the rooms were only viewable from a gate at the doorway. The rooms we were actually allowed in were quite impressive.
Very little mention of Diana’s connection to the house and the family. One (bad) painting of her at the top of the stairs and one photo on the piano was all that I spotted.
The highlight of my visit was the Diana memorial by the water which was peaceful with lots of benches to sit and reflect, remember, or whatever you want really.
Reading back through this review it seems I have mentioned the cost a lot but that is my main memory of this visit which I think is really rather sad. On a positive note, lots of toilets near the stables and they were clean!

We had read the reviews on line and wish we had taken them more seriously. From the car park or as we call it a field there is a long walk to the house. The house is very disappointing, rooms are hard to view from a gate at the doorway. others are full of portraits with very little information. I suggest a visit to a national trust house for some ideas on how to present a house may help. I understand that they do not want the house to be only about Diana but surely some acknowledgement is necessary rather than one portrait at the top of the stairs with no detail displayed.
The highlight of the tour was the island a very peaceful area surrounded by seats and a lovely place to sit.
The shop had no mention of Diana full of books or very expensive tat.
I am glad to say I have visited but have no plan to return, not worth the £25.

We bought tickets on line. Took advice from other visitors and once near by followed the brown direction signs (Not our sat nav). Free car park was a large field, with ample parking. The girl at the main gate was friendly and helpful. There is a long walk down the drive to the house but for us added to the experience as the drive had 36 trees planted either side (1 for every year of Diana’s life) Disabled parking in house grounds available. The grand house tour was very enjoyable and the many guides were friendly, informative and extremely knowledgeable. Would have liked to have seen more about Diana but we could view her bedroom. The visit to Diana’s memorial and lake was so peaceful, tranquil and spiritual. Beautifully designed with seats all around the lake to sit and reflect. There is a cafe with a small selection of sandwiches, rolls etc, and a gift shop but both we found quite expensive. The only toilets were near the cafe/ picnic area but they had many cubicles and was very clean and tidy. Maybe the ticket price was a little over priced at £25 each as our whole visit was completed within 3.5 hours but nevertheless overall so pleased we visited and a must for any Diana fan.
