This is a beautiful place, such lovely surroundings and the park is free to walk around which is great! The big disappointment is the small takeaway cafe; the food is expensive and what I had yesterday was revolting! The cheese, bacon and chutney baguette was disgusting - not freshly made, but taken out of the fridge and put in the microwave to warm up, came out soggy, far too much chutney (despite my asking the very grumpy lady not to put so much on) and I gave most of it to the dog - a waste of £6.25, which I felt was overpriced anyway. The staff in the little cafe are sometimes friendly but others are not at all friendly and it seems like an inconvenience to them if I speak to them! Some improvements are definitely needed if they want to charge the prices they are charging.

This place is one of those places where you could spend hours here exploring and lapping up its beauty.
It’s perfect for dog walkers as there’s open fields to play with other dogs or to throw a ball but also a good place to come with young family, as there’s a fairly large woodland area. There’s a beautiful Manor House- which is perfect if you enjoy history and museums. They also have a cafe, toilets and a high end restaurant inside (Hibiscus). There’s outside seating at the cafe when Mother Nature is on your side.
There’s a walled garden, to admire the beauty of all the plants and flowers but dogs must be kept on the lead.
They also have a massive lake also known as the ‘Gravel Pits’ which is a beautiful walk. With picturesque views and places to stop for a picnic or a pit stop.
Overall, this is a stunning place to come especially when the weather is nice with some many areas to explore.

We had a really lovely morning at Delapre - especially if you are interested in history. The exhibits are touchable and the text explanations are endearingly written by volunteers and research workers who tell how they found things out.
The guided tours are well worth going on, giving a sense of being shown things the ordinary visitors would miss.
The restaurant gets very crowded - eat early!

Myself and my partner spend a lot of time here, its one of our go-to locations for walking or just going somewhere to relax. The cafes are really nice, and going round the abbey is really interesting too.

Had a Party for friends here recently. Great venue and food was good but overall mangement of the event was poor.
Could be a great Wedding venue but it needs to sharpen its act up.

I really wanted to give Delapre Abbey 5 stars because it is lovely and so well and thoughtfully run. But it would be misleading to give a relatively modest house the same score as Blenheim Palace or Waddesdon Manor. What I will say is that, in terms of the way the place is presented and run, 5 stars are deserved.

The history of Delapre Abbey is long, dramatic and diverse. It takes in war, scandal, religion, aristocracy, romance, art, public utility and more.
The exterior is striking and, in parts, very pretty, whilst the interior varies as much as the history it has hosted. There are some truly gorgeous rooms and artworks.

I saw the house itself in two ways. I had a look around myself and I also joined one of the several tours that are conducted daily.
Wandering by yourself is worthwhile, so that you can dwell on details of particular interest and take photos but the tour was far and away the highlight of the visit.
Our tour guide, Briggite, was superb - highly knowledgeable, engaging and enthusiastic. She made it one of the best historic tours I've taken - and I've taken a few!
Other official guides, posted around the building, were friendly and very keen to chat to visitors about the rooms, furniture, artworks or history.
The guides are keen to point out that, unusually, guests are allowed to touch and examine anything within the building, to sit on chairs, flick through books etc.

The Abbey has a small gift shop with quality gift items, relating to the house and associated history.

There is a good cafe in the complex, serving decent coffee and some very tasty snacks like sausage rolls, warm baguettes and cakes. On a sunny day, such as I enjoyed here, it is possible to sit out in the adjacent stable courtyard, overlooked by a pretty bell-tower and some huge, venerable trees.

The wider outdoor space is formed by a green and spacious parkland, dotted with trees, where families play and picnic and dogs are exercised.
A stroll around the perimeter would make a pleasant and substantial walk.
A good way up the hill, adjacent to the park, Northampton's semi-ruined Eleanor Cross which has a wonderful historical story behind it that ties in with that of the Abbey. It's well worth having a look at this too, whilst you're in the area.

A thoroughly rewarding visit for just £8 (adult entry fee).

We toured the house in the Februry half term. All of the guides and re-enactors were knowledge, friendly and happy to chat. The information boards were clear and easy to follow. Under 18's free which helped. Lovely gardens and a very good cup of coffee from the cafe. Very reasonablly price attraction. I'm looking forward to going back.

We had a lovely time. Lovely little light trail with some nice bits. We hired a chalet at the end and had drinks brought to us and some food. The staff were all friendly. Not in the same league as blenheim but still a nice family night out.

Winter light trail. We decided to visit the new winter light trail to 1. To Support local business / charity and 2. To set of our Christmas spirit.

It was a beautiful walk but it most definitely was not spectacular like it was advertised. It was very over priced and a rip off for parking being charged £3 on top of entry when normally parking is free I believe.

The food stalls, drinks and entertainment at the end was lovely. It felt really festive.

There was so much potential to add so much more.
I hope with this being the first one, that next year they listen to the feedback and add more lights or lower the price to make it more affordable.
