Had Al as our instructor, we visited 2 years ago and he took us caving then. Was nice to see him again and he was brilliant again! Fantastic two days, highly recommend and will be visiting again.

We’ve just had the most incredible weekend with Dan learning about trad and sport climbing.
He really put us at ease with his friendly personality and impressive teaching skills.
Trad is not an easy subject, but Dan made it feel intuitive and digestible. Thanks Dan!

I booked a private day session trad climbing with my brother so we would have a strong foundation to get away from a year of indoor boulders to the great outdoors.
Al took us through the fundamentals with various climbs on the South side of Stanage Edge with a fun, yet calm and professional demeanour which put us at ease and allowed us to have a fantastic day out.
His experience, genuine passion and principles were apparent, including offering to answer questions and clarify our understanding in the future. This led to his lessons being packed with valuable information and additional resources to lead us further.

This was my second caving trip with Alan, and this time, we explored P8. It is the most beautiful completely natural cave I have seen. The challenging abseils and traverses just added to the character of the cave. It was a brilliant adventure. Al's attention to detail in his work is fantastic to see. He didn't just let me follow him through the cave, he got me hands-on learning about the different knots he was using and other ways to secure myself to the ropes as I made my way across traverses. For anyone interested in seeing a challenging beautiful cave, I highly recommend speaking to Alan Cash at Gritstone Adventure Activities who I can guarantee will give you the best experience.

Al took us rock climbing for two days to Stanage Edge and some lesser known climbing spots. We had climbed indoors before but never outdoors. Al was quickly able to gaze our climbing level and expectations and adjust the routes accordingly. His explanations on climbing technique and gear were always very clear. We had A LOT of fun on the rock and visiting the beautiful climbing spots we might not have discovered on our own. We always felt VERY secure during the climbing. The second day was really worthwile, as we had a better hang of the gritstone climbing techniques so we got to climb some extra fun routes! Overall a great experience which we would definitely recommend.

The communication was friendly, detailed and informative right from the start. We did a days climbing with our instructor, Chas, and he couldn’t have been more knowledgeable, experienced and friendly. I can’t recommend Gritstone Adventures enough!

This was amazing day and short stay for our trip in UK.
We had a knowledgeable session and enjoyed moments with Dan at Burbage North and Giant Hole in Peak District. It was such a good decision to have a good instructor for the first time climbing and caving. Dan encouraged our youngest son, 11 year old, to climb up the 8m height rock. The oldest got Dan’s instruction how to climb with different techniques to the challenged side of those rock.
We had impressive experience in the Giant hole. It was very knowledgeable and amazing experiences.
Dan taught us today, Resilience!!! We love this learning.

What an incredible experience! When I was a young child, I had been caving a couple of times with a friend. Now I am 28 years old and I had decided I wanted to experience caving again. That's when I found Gritstone Adventure Activities. I paid for a full day of caving, and Al did not disappoint as he took me down The Giant's Hole Cavern and Carlswark Cavern. Not only is Al a great caving instructor, but he also knows the geology and history of the caves superbly, teaching you all about the different types of caves and rock formations. I hoped for a challenge too and he challenged me to what he thought I was comfortable with. Honestly, it was one of my best experiences and it was worth every penny. If anyone is wanting a caving experience, Al at Gritstone Adventure Activities is your man! I will be caving with Al again. Thank you, Al.

Going caving has been on my bucket list for a time and one recent evening, after having a couple of pints of Dutch-courage, up popped Gritstone from a Google search. Mid-life crisis, menopausal woman, booking frightening experiences while under the influence, what could possibly go wrong?!
Striking while the iron was hot (and before I sobered up), I sent a message asking for a Peak District experience and after a quick exchange of emails, to ensure Al knew a bit about me and what I wanted, a custom made day, with all equipment supplied was promptly arranged.
I'd asked to be challenged but was a complete beginner and Al tuned into this perfectly on the day, offering small tasters, gradually increasing in height or difficulty, to ensure I was not uncomfortable, or taken out of my depth at any point. Al was encouraging and supportive, showing incredible patience.
The caving itself was amazing, we walked, crouched, crawled, squeezed and clambered into spaces large and small, and was also hoisted over rock edges, into crevices and waterfalls! I especially enjoyed the waterfall ;)
Geological knowledge and historical context given throughout by an incredibly experienced and confident leader. Friendly guy, really welcoming and I felt completely at ease immediately. Trusted Al to provide a great day and he did. Was not expensive for the experience either and I may have to do this all again...

Al took my wife and I and our kids weaselling for a half day. Our kids are 8 and 3. I thought they wouldn't last 5 minutes in the cold and wind, but they couldn't get enough! An hour flew by as we snuck our way through the cracks and crevices of the gritstone peaks. They were pushing each other to do more and more. I was so pleased with the adventure. Thanks to Al, his perseverance and local knowledge!
