I've always liked Burford with his special vibe... Main street with many cafes and shops.
The church made a great impression.
Burford can be visited at any time of year, it is always crowded. We visit this place quite often. I recommend that if you have the opportunity, be sure to visit this place

This is an amazing church in an area with bland churches. It’s steeped in history with beautifully maintained architecture.
The Normans built the church in 1070 and subsequently additions were made over the centuries.
Inside is breathtaking. This is a must visit.

I read up about the history of the church before our visit, so glad I did as I discovered some interesting information about it that I was able to explore during my visit. We also passed on this info to fellow visitors who nothing about it. The church has a fascinating history and it was lovely sitting in the grounds, admiring the other historic buildings close by.

This Anglican church in Burford (cruciform plan, five-bay nave, chapels distributed to the north and south, tower and spire placed above the center of the church) is dedicated to Saint-Jean-Baptiste. This temple is listed as a built heritage site in England (Grade I). Construction work began in 1175 and was completed in 1500. In the 1870s, the building underwent extensive restoration, in the Victorian Gothic Revival style, under the supervision of the English architect George Edmund Street (1824-1881). To see, inside: the stained glass windows, many of which are the work of the British designer and manufacturer of the Victorian era, Charles Eamer Kempe (1837-1907). The church also has a few memorials, including one dedicated to Edmund Harman (≈1509-1577), barber-surgeon to King Henry VIII of England and another paying tribute to Christoper Kempster (died in 1715), a very popular quarryman. by Sir Christopher Wren and who worked on the construction of St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Its size cannot be missed, the tomb of Sir Lawrence and Lady Tanfield occupying the old Sainte-Catherine chapel. A bit of English history: in 1649, during the English Civil War (1642 to 1651), opposing royalists and parliamentarians, a group of 340 radical thinkers (called "Levellers"), demanding equality for all, was imprisoned in this church. The ringleaders were shot, the others pardoned, but after having witnessed the execution. Visited in April 2023.

The church itself was pretty, especially the exterior, and carries a nice ambience but there are definitely cooler churches in England. However, this church has a free toilet that you can use if you don't want to go to a restaurant or use the pay toilets in town, which is nice to be aware of.

Had lunch in Windrush, visited Burford and made some purchases and afternoon tea.. Visited antiques Centre and then Burford Garden Centre.

Started doing weekend walks in the area. Church is off the main street where you may not normally walk. Much larger than you would expect but very attractive both inside and out. Worth a visit

When we visited Burford, we could not find parking along the main shopping street and ended up parking at Guidenford Car Park. This was a blessing as we walked past St John the Baptist Church as we headed to town. We popped in and are amazed by the building and it is a working church. We walked around the grounds and admired the structure, both internally and externally. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Burford.

An absolutely stunning church on the Cotswolds. I have visited this area three times now from the US, and have somehow missed Burford. This church alone makes this a must see while visiting. Though the church was closed when we arrived, just the outside was enough. Gorgeous.

The church is normally open 9.00am - 5.00pm except when there are funerals and weddings. Visitors are welcome to join us for services on Sundays at 8.00am, 9.15am and 11.00am, after which the church opens again to tourists at 1.00pm.
