We've stayed at many pubs in the last three years as we've met up to walk the Thames Path and now the Ridgeway on occasional weekends. Our stay here has probably been the nicest. Elegant, simple decor, beautifully presented, delicious food, attentive service; all perfect. Also they have the loveliest huge tent for lounging around in, just a shame about the 10 pm Covid curfew but that's not their fault.
Thoroughly recommended.

The chips in this place are sent from heaven! Perfectly crispy outter shell crunches through into soft fluffy potato. I'm going back for more.

We have just spent the last four days staying at The Star. So impressed ! The bedrooms are lovely. Really cosy and warm along with Branch d’Olive products and great tea and coffee which really gave us the sense that this place is special.
We ate in the pub a number of times, looked after by the wonderful Lucy, Kathy and Dom. They are so friendly and made the whole experience very special indeed. We would also recommend the food here. Breakfasts were absolutely delicious and the dinners were some of the best meals we have ever eaten.
If you are in any doubt I would suggest you look no further and book!!

I located this inn on Tripadviser for a short away-break with friends I hadn't seen for a long time.
The village is pleasant enough but really nothing to be overly excited about but the food, cooking and presentation at the Star Inn is excellent as is the accommodation in the purpose built barn, in the grounds of the Inn and sympathetically designed to compliment the period properties of the village. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have experienced, even in 5 star hotels.
All members of staff were efficient and friendly but also very proud of their place of employment and all that it offers.
However, the weather ( cold, miserable and wet on Good Friday and Easter Saturday) would have warranted the fire being lit in the tiny lounge area of the Bar and more warmth in the restaurant area of the Bar where we had to dine in the evening due to a large party of young county people celebrating an event in the restaurant that evening.
Unfortunately the party spent at least 45 minutes in the Bar before going through to the restaurant and we couldn't hold a conversation, being seated at a table close to the Bar, due to the noise they were making. As the large dining room seemed to be reserved only for that party of young people I suggest that any future such event is served by a drinks/reception area being set up in the restaurant so as to not to spoil the experience of independent diners.
The Inn, seemingly making as much space available for dining in the Bar as possible, has totally inadequate seating in a very tiny lounge/lounging area which doesn't marry up with the accommodation for resident quests it boasts.
If I am looking to spend a weekend at an Inn with good food and accommodation in the future I am afraid this won't be the one as I like to be able to relax in a comfortable seat in front of a fire on a cold evening and before having a quality meal in a restaurant where noisy parties of young people do not spoil my meal or prevent conversation between friends. I do not expect to be inconvenienced when staying at an establishment in this price bracket.
