I have written a review for this cafe and location before so I wont repeat my 5 star report.
I just read comment from a visitor report that made a comment regards the car parking charges.
This is not a profit making operation, in fact having the forestry commission as owners guardians is very fortunate.
When they have to do an operation here it costs quite a lot of money, but its for our planet and human enjoyment, making the pathways is not easy and cheap nor are the car parks so please get your thinking caps on when saying its expensive to park, its not and its well invested.

You can get an annual membership for about £30 for Haughmond hill, that's cheap as chips.

I say thank you to the forestry commission for looking after the nations heritage, if it were in private hands money would be the arbiter, not the nations good for rich or the poorer within our society. Personally I would make it free where hardship is present. Where there is a will there is a way.

Located a few miles from Shrewsbury, this is a lovely spot for a picnic and a stroll. There are well maintained paths in different lengths - they are in loops so its easy to pick a longer or shorter route - depending on the time you have available and your group. There are exceptional views across the surrounding countryside. The Toposcope view point has a panorama which shows you what you are looking towards and the different towns and ranges of hills. Cleverly, this is done in the stone from that place.

The yellow route - Corbett trail is very pretty with wild flowers and many types of trees. This is all access and suitable for wheelchairs and push chairs and is about 3/4 of a mile. We did this in addition to the red route - Henry's Hike and Geotrail - which has views across the quarry. There is a map on the Forestry England website. All the trails are on the flat - you have a steep drive/ bike up, but then once you are there the walking is all level. The walking is also in the shade with views out - so a good choice for a hot day. On the way around there are plenty of benches. The woodlands are very varied and good for keen and amateur birdwatchers. We had just started our walk when a willow tit came and perched right in front of us - not something you see often now.

There are lots of picnic tables for you to bring your own picnic - including many in the shade of trees - which are well spaced out. There is also additional, partly covered seating for cafe users. There are some wood sculptures which give some character. We brought our own picnic and just had tea and cake from the cafe. There were lovely cakes including vegan choices. There were also several vegetarian and vegan choices for lunch (the soup is by default vegan and gluten free).

When we arrived the car park was almost full on a Sunday afternoon. However, there are lots of trails and none of the paths seemed busy. The only catch is that the cafe closes at 4pm and the toilets a little before....on such a popular site its a little frustrating that the facilities can't be kept open a little longer. There is a small charge for car parking - which is a bit of a faff and we ended up paying twice by accident. I don't mind the fee as they are clearly doing a good job maintaining all the trails.

Nice place if your local - there is a cafe and toilets parking was £2 - £4 bit expensive we thought as there's not a great deal here.
great for the locals - would not go again

Great walks for dogs (& people), lovely wooded paths. If anything spoils it it's the freedom of the loggers to cut down trees. Great little cafe on site too with great things like toast or crumpets. Pleant of tables & benches outside too.

Wet day walk. Nice and muddy in places. Did the blue walk - about 1hr 15mins. followed by cake and coffee. Really nice walk with good paths and lots of off path trails if you don't mind getting lost. lots of other walkers. £2 car park. Dogs can be off lead - ours had a great run.

Nice place close to Shrewsbury. £2 car parking all day. Many benches and picnic benches close to the parking area. On site cafe very helpful with change for the car parking machine. Car park is close to quarry - don't be put off by this! Well marked trails with a well maintained inner track and offshoot paths. Great views and a pleasent way to spend 2+ hours

Apart from the view at the far end of the wood there's not a lot to see at Haughmond Hill - the so-called Geo trail is quite long, rather tedious and not very interesting (my wife would have benefitted from using her mobility scooter rather than a rolator as she gave up before the end and turned back without seeing anything!) - but for most it's still good exercise and the parking is very reasonable (£1 for 2 hours or £2 for longer).

There is also a viewing area half way along over the adjacent quarry, but although there are good signboards the shrubbery is somewhat overgrown and one can't actually see into the quarry quite as much as one would wish, especially for anyone less than 10ft tall. Still, it's a good idea to satisfy visitors' curiosity in this way and explains why the trees that flank this particular walk are so dusty.

One useful attraction is an excellent and friendly cafe [currently take-away only] serving an extensive range of homemade cakes (the bread pudding is truly excellent - if you like bread pudding, that is!), and there are lots of picnic tables nearby for general use.

Good walking, with stunning views over Shropshire. The geology walk with a view into the quarry is fascinating.

We came a couple of weeks back, unfortunately it was a damp day! Luckily - we packed coats! Lovely walk around and finished off with a brilliant cuppa tea! Very polite, attentive staff!

Will be back shortly!

This should be a lovely place to visit and walk with a young family. However there are too many irresponsible dog owners using these walks who leave dog mess behind.
You really have to watch young children walking along the paths because of the dog mess.
You can even smell dog urine and poo as soon as you open the car door.
The place is a victim of its own success and I fear it is becoming overused especially by irresponsible dog owners
