Dunster is a very nice place. You will see old houses and cottages. In the middle of the main street is a round object, which is an old preserved Point of Sale stall from the 17th century.
There is also a nice bridge Gallox Bridge from the 15th century over which you can only cross on foot or by bike, here are very nice cottages

In days gone by a picture of Dunster Village, with its thatched cottages and ivy-clad buildings, would probably have appeared on the top of as box of chocolates; it's that picturesque. Photographic opportunities arise round every corner. There's historic buildings and lovely gardens. The only problems are cars and cobblestones. If you do arrive by car, use the car park at the beginning of the village because there's no chance you will be able to park in the village. Unfortunately, the cobblestones make it difficult for walking on and are certainly not wheelchair or pushchair friendly. But still, when all's said and done, it's an historic village and should not be missed if you are anywhere near.

We drove to Dunster as it was nearby to Cleeve Abbey, and had heard there were some historic buildings there.
What an amazing find.
There is a good car park just as you enter the village and beside it is a Tourist Information Office. This is worth a visit. Here we picked up a map of the village and a walking map to take us around Dunster Castle itself, without entering the grounds.
With all the rain we have had the walk was a bit wet in places, but passable in ordinary trainers. We came upon the watermill and the historic bridge. The watermill Cafe is worth a stop.
Walking around the village was a great experience, narrow lanes, easy to get lost. The parish church is absolutely worth a visit. Numerous medieval artefacts including strong boxes that required five people to open and an incredible medieval tile floor - which I thin rivals that at Cleeve Abbey. Unfortunately none of my photos were good enough to upload.

I've enjoyed several visits to Dunster and it never gets boring.
From the historic Yarn market and one of the country's best preserved Castles to the delightful shops and locally-owned eateries along its cobblestone streets, it is a delightful, quaint village.
Bear in mind though that almost the entire length of the pavements in Dunster are cobblestoned so those who walk with canes or strollers will find it rather difficult. It is also not a wheelchair-friendly place unless you feel comfortable walking in the street but then to get into many shops, you've got to walk down a few steps and back along the cobbled pavements.
If you can only choose one place to visit in Somerset, I'd suggest you make it Dunster!

Really beautiful village, lovely cafes and lots to explore. Lovely historical area and it’s all very well kept. We had two small children with us and they also really enjoyed it!

Great place for a quick walk but not that much there, and if you go on a Sunday it’s unfortunately mostly all closed. You can probably (on a Sunday) do comprehensive visit in 30 minutes. Realistically it’s not a place to plan a trip to visit unless combined with the castle.
If you plan to visit the water wheel at the mill, don’t walk through the village, follow the safer castle route. The village route leaves you walking along the edge of a narrow road with no pavements.

Some interesting shops and places of historical interest. Look out for the chocolate shop which has amazing ice cream with lots of unique flavours. The yarn house interesting historical feature. Park in the car park just as you enter the village as it is near impossible to park in the village and it’s only a short walk to the village.

The village is lovely. If anything it lacks information. We don't want to fill the place with signs but some of the properties etc were obviously of historical interest yet we found no information in the village itself. We found The Memorial Gardens and the Dunster village garden by wandering and can tell you that they are beautiful and well worth a visit. The Dovecote is a lovely structure too. We were disappointed that the Water Mill is only accessible on a ticket for the Castle as we would have liked to see the mill especially as it was working when we were there.

Very pretty village with old priory, dovecote and castle. There is a village car park just off the A39 which is very reasonably priced. You can also park in the National Trust car park or walk up from the West Somerset Railway Dunster station. It is well worth walking the back streets to see the priory, the church, orchard and butter cross and the lovely gardens, it also takes you away from the main road. Lots of tea rooms etc and the castle is well worth a visit.
