The Yarn market in Dunster stands at the top of the main street opposite the pub/hotel. It has been well maintained and dates back to medieval times.
The single women in the families would be the ones who would spin the yarn to make the cloth that would be sold here - hence the name "spinster"

The whole of Dunster is lovely and well worth a visit on the way to the castle. There are some exceptional tea rooms for a cream tea.

This little piece of history was just up the road from where we were staying so we spent 15mins looking round. It is managed by English Heritage and is where the traders came to sell their yarn around 300years ago out of the rain. The structure is intact with much of the original architecture and worn wood seating around the edge. Lovely

... managed by English Heritage sat at the top of Dunster High Street. Explanatory poster gives its origin and its nice to have been preserved.

Such a lovely part of the medieval village. Look for a hole in one of the beams, apparently from the Civil War cannon fire (how did they manage this, I've no idea).

This is a grade 1 listed monument and dates from when Dunster prospered as a centre for the wool trade. It was built so people would not have to trade in the rain, and still stands today as a symbol of the prosperity that the wool trade brought to the village. A lovely little piece of history

Situated in the High Street and a glimpse back to 300 years ago. Stunning architecture and well preserved it’s all very photogenic. Worth seeing but only takes 5-10 minutes

What a beautiful village is Dunster! We walked around for quite a while, admiring the wonderful Mediaeval architecture and especially the 17th Century Yarn Market where cloth trading was carried out in days of yore! Kids love the Yarn Market, running in and out of its octagonal structure. Absolutely gorgeous place! We love it!
