There were loads of parking spaces in their car park, when I arrived, even though it was on the Sunday before the Bank Holiday Monday. After I showed them my National Trust card, I asked if they’d got a guide book. They had a sort of book about the history of the place. When I walked in, I was greeted by a male volunteer in a wheelchair. Later, a female volunteer talked more about the Cordell family. Then, as I continued walking through the house, a male volunteer talked to me about the family’s connection to Beatrix Potter.

Interesting property, but I would suggest avoiding the cafe.

A country House in keeping with the local village. Small but grand. The inside is a mixture of the ostentatious décor and plain early 1900 functionality. Inside you learn that a fire destroyed many parts of the building during the war and that's why its got a mixed heritage. Beatrix Potter stayed at the property frequently and there's plenty of her memorabilia dotted-about.
The grounds are simply styled but worth a wonder round.

Lovely NT property in nice grounds with free car park for visitors. Guides very knowledgeable and friendly, small second hand bookshop, short but pleasant parkland walk and a tea shop for refreshments. Well worth a visit.

Set in a beautiful Suffolk Village, the Hall seems part of the community: there is a human scale inside & feels lived in & loved. Friendly staff make you feel welcome & there is much of interest inside & out, even in the torrential downpour which fell as I visited. Very well worth people's time, it will leave you with a good feeling.

Very good visit to Melford, wonderful knowledgeable staff on hand with very interesting anecdotes. There are not a lot of rooms to see but each one so very different from each other due to the remodelling over the years. So lots of different styles. Lots of gardens and parkland to wander around but like my own garden not looking it’s best after the summer we’ve had.

This beautiful country manor house is a fine Tudor building and continues to be the home of the Hyde Parker family, although the house now belongs to the National Trust. Some of the Tudor architectural elements can still be seen, although much of the exterior has been remodelled into Georgian architecture.
Some of the outstanding features include the staircase with classical columns, the double library with its oak and walnut fittings, and Ionic columns of polished pink marble. Beatrix Potter sometimes stayed at the house and there's several of her items displayed in the West Bedroom. I loved that.
The house also has a nice art collection including works by Dominic Serres and John Closterman.

Really enjoyed our visit today. The volunteers couldn’t be more helpful. Two lovely gentleman at the car park saw me with a walking stick and said I may struggle as it was a bit of a walk to house. They offered for my husband to drop me off and return to car park. They then explained where to get into the house and where things are.
Then once inside the house a lovely lady at the door said here is some alternative steps that have a handrail to access the upstairs rooms.
Please don’t be put off going if you have difficulty walking.
The volunteers know the history of the house and they are happy to chat about the history around it.
Many thanks for such a lovely afternoon out.

Friendly staff and volunteers, enjoyable day out exploring the house and gardens with my family. Few garden games available to keep children happy and a lovely coffee to be had in the cafe.

we are visiting long melford on 31st of jan will the house be open please or the grounds ?

Unfortunately we will be closed. The House and Garden will re-open on Wednesday 1 April. We will be open Wednesday to Sunday from 1 to 5pm plus Bank Holiday Mondays until Sunday 1 November.
