Great museum for all ages

Wonderful museum with plenty for all age groups. The display about The Story of Newcastle from Roman times to the present was really interesting, full of stories and exhibits. I also liked the military display which was excellent with stories from various solders, information about mascots and interactives for children. The exhibition about the Tyne also really good. I had lunch in the café, a lovely jacket potato with a wonderful fresh salad with lots of different vegetables not just Lettice and tomato and a nice cup of steaming hot tea. Free admission

Garry made this a 5 star review. Absolutely outstanding customer service from Garry at the entrance. He was kind funny and most importantly patient. A real credit to the discovery museum. Without Garry this would have been a 4 out of 5. Loads to see for family’s and the kids. Extremely interesting exhibits. Will definitely be back again ❤️

Fantastic morning with grandchildren in the Discovery museum

Having 2 x 8 year old twin inquisitive grandchildren for the day makes you think about where to take them to occupy their minds. This place does not disappoint. I specifically want to teach them about the history of Newcastle upon tyne. They were quite interested,however, they have short attention spans. They found the interactive area extremely exciting, and we're keen to understand how everything worked by "having a go." They could have spent more time there, but we were peckish and went to the cafe for a drink and some snacks. The cafe was clean and the staff was very efficient. It had some nice snacks and was reasonably priced. Will take the grandkids back next year when they may have a longer concentration span to educate them more about the fascinating history of Newcastle upon Tyne.

My grandson (two and a half) and I visited the museum yesterday (5/9/23). We had a wonderful time and every single member of staff we encountered was really lovely, from the gentleman on the front desk, to the kind lady in the lift, the cafe staff, the cleaning lady on the 2nd floor and the gentleman who told us all about the Turbinia.

I really enjoyed the exhibition they had and the activities in the exhibitions were very good and the cafe is very nice and tasty as well! I also enjoyed how it was free of pay but then you had to pay a donation at the end

Not to be missed

Great place and there's something for all the family. It's not just things to look at, there are loads of hands on displays to play with.
Give yourself at least a few hours, we did but unfortunately the fire alarm activated before we finished the top floor.
Free entry but donations are accepted and well worth a few quid of anybody's money.
We will certainly return.

Was unable to park

I’ve given the museum 5 stars as I’m sure it’s great and I was really looking forward to my visit. Unable to park though. Zero parking at the location and as soon as you drive further into the city to park, it’s game over. Unless you know the one way system.

I loved this museum - the first hall has the worlds first turbine boat
You can't imagine the river in Victorian times but the museum really brings it to life
Cafe is OK and you need a break because it is a big museum!
Really kiddy friendly

First Visit

First time I have been here and really enjoyed the fascinating place. Loads to see and do spread over three floors with loads of interactive stuff for kids to try and do. There are toilets throughout which are bright and clean. We had lunch at the café on the third floor which was toasted sandwiches that we did not have to wait long for and were brought to our table. We went for lunch just on 12:00 and the café was pretty full then and by the time we left people were standing waiting for tables. Food was nice and not to bad a price. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The best part of this is that it is all for free and if you have kids you could easily spend 2-3 hours in here. The only two comments I will make is that it would have been nice to have a map/ layout of the museum so you could plan your route around and secondly it would have been nice to have been able to purchase some sort of memento i.e fridge magnet or pen, in the shop, with maybe the museums logo on it. All in all a great and informative time had.
