Excellent performance as with all their classical performances.
Acoustics great where ever you sit.
Always well organised for getting to your seats.

This is first and foremost offices and rehearsal space for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra but it's so much more than that. The BCMG hold concerts in the hall and it's a really lovely, quiet intimate performance pace, for the enjoyment of contemporary music. Obviously in addition to the rehear facility for which ti was built!

To say that we love Birmingham Symphony Hall is a huge understatement. We don't live in Birmingham but we come here for concerts at every possible opportunity. The concert hall is breathtaking, the sound is incredible wherever you are sitting, and the programme is so varied it will suit all tastes. It is an experience not to be missed, and once enjoyed you will be back for more. The new young Latvian female Director is inspirational, full of enthusiasm and vibrancy. She conducts like a dancer. It is mesmerising.

I remember when the conductor had a hair do like those innocent emblems on marmalade jars. Sir Simon learned to conduct while main conductor of the CBSO.
His early attempts at Beethoven were overly romantic but he eventually produced a wonderful cycle of all nine before left for the precious Berlin Phil. He has his work getting the LSO up to speed returning like Gandalf the white.
He did have the advantage of this concert hall which in my experience is the best in Europe although I have yet to experience the new one in Hamburg planned for this Christmas. Now he has the LSO and the Barbican mighty are the fallen.
The CBSO has a new elf like conductress from one of those bits of Europe I cannot spell. She is tiny and would be banned from today's PC fashion shows. She never the less controls and cajoles the orchestra towards the sublime. Her excitement is infectious and her joy in the music had the dowerest orchestra member smile. Her long white spot lit arms entwine with the light and shade and intimation of the piece balletic with the occasional jette at the end of a great chorous.
The acoustic in the hall ment all had to be spot on. The decore has stood the test of time although the upholstery showed my aged bottom its age.
We were treated to Haydn's last great master piece perhaps inspired by Handel's canon of oritorios he populates the peice with monumental chorouses and intimate duets. I heard Motzart ,Beethoven, Mendleson, Bach, Stravinsky Berstine... who is copying whom I'm not sure.
The CBSO chorus was magnificent. They are the best I have heard in the UK. Europe. Australia and North America. They were in glorious form. Every consonant sounding just the once with no machine gun s's or t's. We had a trio of good soloists as well.
To get to the hall from the station is a challenge since the burgers of brum pulled down the old library a joy in sixties concrete only to build another ugly duckling on the edge of centenary square. At the moment you must walk by the erstwhile "flussie in the jacuzzi " now the "flussie in the flower pot" and walk past the lower face of the town hall turning right following the signs. Sadly the flussie is in bronze unlike the truly awful fibre-glass sculpture in centenary square it is not flammable. Perhaps we need some gieriila gardener to ad some gro-more to the flower pot so she disappears into the under growth.
The route is a building site like most of Birminham.
Arriving foot sore and thirsty I decided to beet the rush and go through security to the bar. I spotted a bottle of UBU. I know UBU is one of the best bottle beers around but to present a bottle near its best before date at Melbourne default temperature and charge £5.50 is rather taking the proverbial.
Otherwise I had a sublime evening made possible by this great build, this great chorus, this great orchestra and an enchantress from Vilnius.

Came to the CBSO with my children's school who were representing the south west for the festival. A lovely place, very well organised.

This really a review of the orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, whose headquarters are the Centre. Birmingham is amazingly fortunate to have an orchestra ranked high among the best in the world and in the very top bracket of British orchestras. In the last 5 years I have attended over 50 CBSO concerts at Symphony Hall and have invariably left delighted and uplifted by the deeply committed performances and the sheer beauty of the playing. This orchestra is an absolute jewel in Birmingham and the West Midlands.
Certain performances stick in the mind as the finest I have experienced in over 60 years of concertgoing: Andris Nelson's Beethoven's 9th and Mahler's 6th being the absolute pinnacles.
It is good to see parties of young students at many performances; but disappointing to see empty seats at others. Wake up Birmingham! This is an orchestra which fills some of the most prestigious international venues and receives rave reviews. Its Beethoven Concerts in Bonn a few years ago were given the highest possible praise in Beethoven's birthplace.
It does a great deal to advertise Birmingham and add to its quality of life but needs better media and civic recognition locally to add to its loyal support from individual patrons and concertgoers.
It has a rising star as its music director, Mirga Grazinyte Tyla. What more could people want? The CBSO is a flagship for the City and the Region.

Está sala é realmente fantástica. A acústica impecável e o espaço extraordinário. Assistimos a um concerto da 5a Sinfonia e nos emocionamos com a performance e qualidade do lugar. Perfeito. Vale a pena reservar com antecedência e curtir.

Berkley Street is just opposite the new Register Office and houses rehearsal space for the City of Birmingham symphony Orchestra. I was welcomed and directed to a conference room for a roundtable meeeting to explore progress made in philanthropy in the area. Addressed by Keith Bradshaw High Sheriff and Sir Dominic Cadbury it proved an excellent venue for a fascinating conference

The CBSO are a wonderful orchestra, go and hear them play and support them.
Events at the CBSO centre, are for example, a wonderful lunchtime chamber music series put on by the orchestral players themselves. Or there are concerts for children and families plus much more.
Try their main series of concerts in Symphony Hall... You won't regret it!
