Museum ok, but no ladies toilets. And do not want to use gender neutral toilets. I still think male and female toilets should be separate.

The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is very well worth a visit. Apparently they have recently decided to take a lot of the artworks out of storage and put as much as possible on view and it really works. Hopefully we're coming to the end of the big empty white walls period of gallery curation. It was nice to see Dippy's doing ok after being kicked out of the Natural History Museum by the Blue Whale. Also on the ground floor is a Lady Godiva exhibition with wonderful paintings, particularly those by John Collier and Edwin Landseer. On the upper floor there is a small gallery of old masters, one of more general history of art (predominantly British) and a third of local Coventry artists, which include a lot of local landscapes and of course a number of Graham Sutherland's. I didn't visit the temporary exhibition and wasn't too interested in the stuffed animal section, but I spent a lot longer than I expected in the galleries and very much enjoyed my visit.

This is a very comprehensive and modern local history museum,covering every aspect of this city's history.However I don't quite understand why they give more prominence to the local rugby club than to the football club.If one is conscious of the city it is because of the efforts of the later.

Exhibition of Artspace studio holders work, great communication network and brilliant exhibits .
Good for all the family hope it's accessible and things recommend it to everyone.

A huge variety of exhibits under one roof so there's bound to be something for everyone - history, science, art, culture. At the moment it's hosting Dippy the dinosaur but even without that this would be a great place for children as so much is interactive. Got the impression that exhibits are regularly refreshed so worth returning to in the future. And it's free - brilliant!

Interesting displays and the art work is exceptional. It is a child friendly space but the space does have a lot of steps.

It's great that it's free! The cafe was quite nice and the staff very pleasant.
Dippy looked good but the rest of the galleries I thought were a bit jejune.
I would have liked to have see more fine art; the modernist pieces were ok but nothing special.
For the size of the space, I'm sure more could be included. Half of the museum seemed empty.

We took our granddaughter to Herbert Art Gallery after having visited the Cathedral. Having arrived at 12.30 and feeling hungry we headed for the Barista. This was a mistake! We ordered two toasties, two teas and a slice of cake. The staff had to be reminded that we were still waiting after 30 minutes and when the food came, the toasties had barley been warmed let alone toasted. For £7.30 each they were disgusting! We never received the two cups of tea and the cake was dry. I should point out that the cafe was busy at this time, however the young staff were clearly not coping too well. We left disappointed and a little worried that the gallery exhibits might be equally disappointing.
Mercifully, the gallery exhibits were for the most part very good with something for everyone and our granddaughter loved it.
We will visit again but will avoid the Barista. That way we may be able to give a 5 star rating next time.

The museum was pointed out to me by my city walk tour guide, and I'm so glad she did, because otherwise I would surely have missed out on a great experience!
The museum houses an eclectic mix of old and modern paintings, natural world exhibits and items from Coventry's past, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed! Well worth a visit when you have 1-2 hours to spend when in Coventry.
I also asked to see the Medieval Undercroft below the building, though my expectations may have been a bit too high. My guide also seemed slightly reluctant to have to take me down there and seemingly wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible.
But overall, an excellent visit.

Wonderful free museum with a great history of the city and some good art exhibitions upstairs. Well laid out and thoughtful exhibitions. The cafe was closed unfortunately. You also get half price tickets for the transport museum which is an added bonus.

With the gallery on our left, we took the second right turn and at the end of that road is an open air car park. 5 - 6 minutes walk back to the gallery.
