An amazing experience, like travelling back two thousand years. The mosaics are truly spectacular and the hypo-course gives you an incite into Roman technology. I would recommend everyone to visit Fishbourne Roman Palace.

We visited Fishbourne Roman Palace on a wet day last weekend . It was Interesting and the sheer scale of what it must have been very impressive .
I agree with another reviewer that audio headphone packs would have been very helpful . The staff were not visible really , only at the till .
A guide would have been useful . Imagination required !
It is however worth a visit , maybe later in the season they would be more staff and enthusiastic guides around to help bring the place to life .
The cafe was comfortable and we had a very nice shortbread in there .

Easy to get to by bus. The site has a large car park. As a visitor let your imagination run riot whilst visiting this historical site that is the largest Roman Palace west of the Alps. The actual palace, which was only lived in for just over a couple of centuries, was actually bigger than Buckingham Palace. Visit the museum, the mosaics in the north wing and have a stroll around the garden. Stop at the reconstructed fountain and face west to get the best perspective of this enormous residential site. Once finished pop in the cafe for a flavoursome coffee or tea.

How can anyone not be impressed with this Roman Palace!! Both my wife and I had been here before, but that was over 50 years ago when we were on a Primary School Trip. Booking tickets in advance we found to be a very good idea and for two adults it cost us £13 each. Now some people could fly around this venue in just about one hour. Some will take a lot longer 3-4 hours. We took a leisurely stroll around on our own and it basically took us about 2 hours to take in the views and marvel at the experience.
The car park upon arrival is massive and we arrived at 10am on Saturday 18th March and we were the first people to go in. Without anyone else we were able to meander and read what we wanted to look at and see all the superb artifacts they have found at this site and others they have brought here. When you think that some of these items date back 2000 years it is very humbling and impressive to see the detail and workmanship which has stood the test of time. The Mosaic floor areas are just amazing and will be here for people to view for time in memorial. There was a clay pot excavated nearby in East/West Sussex and this held over 1000 Silver Roman Coins which was truly an historic find.
This place is certainly worth a visit if you have never been before. It is a perfect venue on a wet and miserable day. It is well set up for school parties for children to visit etc. We were very lucky on our visit as the sun shone which made the walk around the gardens and grounds excellent for us. Enjoy your visit.

Besides the amazing floor mosaics there is an informative museum on the discovery of the palace as well as a 15 minute film on the origins of the building. The site is huge, nearly half is still buried under nearby houses and the road! There was enough to keep us interested for 2 hours. It's well worth a visit.

Fascinating place to visit. Its incredible to see the mosaics and artifacts in situ where they were discovered. To think how old they are and the detail is quite humbling. Very informative staff.

The museum was a bit dated … not arranged in a way that portrayed the magnificence of the finds. The cafe also needed an update although the coffee was good.
It was nice to have access to a volunteer guide to ask questions of. The film and information boards were useful to get an idea of the site. Unfortunately a school was visiting so we had to wait to access the film so doing it in the wrong order didn’t help us get the mos out of our visit.

The mosaics are beautiful and show the details of a British Roman palace. In addition to the mosaics, intact on the ground, are a series of displays with other finds that highlight the daily life in Roman Britain. Worth a detour, especially on a rainy day. And yes, the staff make a great difference to the fun.

This was the worst place we have been in our six weeks in England! A complete waste of time and money. Yes the floors are interesting but the context in which they are presented is a joke. No models to help visualize how the floors fit into the palace, and reading the signs was difficult. If you want to see Roman ruins go to the British Museum or Museum of London. We knew we were in trouble when the young man at the entry was wearing a tee shirt with a blanket over his shoulders which I guess was an attempt at Roman garb. I will add that this review is written by two people who have spent 40 years studying British history.

There is a play area and space to run around. Probably a bit young for the child centred historic stuff.
Are the exhibits inside/under cover?
Thank you for your enquiry. Yes, the museum and mosaics are all undercover and are viewed from a walkway above. The plants area and formal gardens are outside and there is a covered colonnade which overlooks the garden.

Me & a few friends will be meeting up at your cafe before cycling to West Wittering & back. Will we be able to leave our cars in your car park while we are cycling ?
I don't expect it to be more than 5 cars.
Thank you for your enquiry regarding our car park. Our car park is available for use by visitors to the Museum or Café. Several local cycle groups use our car park and we would just ask you to let us know in advance if you wish to park for longer than your visit. You can contact us on 01243 785859.

Firstly, apologies for the delay in replying, but I am unable to help you as I don't know the names of the staff employed at Fishbourne. Maybe you could contact them direct? Google shows their number as: 01243 785859.
