I visited this morning with my two young children and my husband.
Whilst we were sat in the children’s playground (the one within the farm grounds) we were approached by an older lady who was picking litter and clearly worked there. We were feeding our 9 month old baby a banana in her pram and our 3 year old was having a snack on a bench (I must add the weather was around 20 degrees).
The lady approached us and rudely said we should not be eating in here because it could harm the animals and wildlife and if we wanted to eat we ‘should cut our visit short’- the quoted words being her exact words. Myself and my husband were so shocked at her rudeness that we barely replied and it actually spoilt our trip to Temple Newsam that we left soon afterwards.
I wish I was not so shocked at the time so I could have questioned her.
But there are signs when you initially enter the farm about no food and drink (I completely understand and respect this) however there are no signs in the children’s play area. There are also bins, picnic benches and hand washing facilities. If you do not want people eating here, why provide these and why not put signs up about not eating?

A great day out - the house is really well done. The interpretation does an excellent job of taking you through the history of the house and is really clear and detailed. There are children's spaces every few rooms with a range of dressing up, games, soft seating etc. There's also a children's trail. The team were really welcoming and we were given a torch to take with us around the house so we could look at some of the objects which are kept in the dark for conservation reasons - this was a great touch!
Caroline (one of the visitor assistants) was really wonderful, and we had a great chat all about the history of the site, etc. Really wonderful to hear about the Temple Newsam team and see how much they care about the house, collections, and visitors' ideas.
The drink cans in the shop were a tad expensive but it's supporting the house and farm so totally understandable. The farm was lovely, too, loads of rare breeds and an amazing dovecote!
Would 10/10 recommend!

Go and explore at Tempsy there’s something for everyone . From the walled garden to the farm and beautiful woodland walks . Free parking and Go Ape on sight.

Beautiful park, buildings and woodlands.
Enjoyed a lovely work, loads of ducks and birds to feed. Sone amazing views, well worth checking out.

I have lived in Leeds for nearly seventy years and this was my first visit to Temple newsam House.
We received a great welcome from the staff on duty and helpful. Advice has to what to look for.
I was impressed by the amount of rooms available to see, the way they were presented and information provided.
A great visit which we plan to repeat with family during school holidays.
We often visit Stately Homes and very often there is limited viewing, this was not to the case at Templenewsam.
Keep up the good work and thanks for a great visit.

If you go to the food court, I suggest you go to the cafe to the right as you go through the entrance. There are 2 of the most miserable people working in the ice cream one! Even though warm food was advertised on an A board outside this one, when we tried to order a panini we got eye rolled and none of them knew if hot food was still been served. They called over to the other cafe (looked like a massive chore) to check, we were told yes so ordered. After 20min of waiting, I went into the main cafe to ask where it was to be told they’ve stopped serving hot food. I explained this is not what I was told 20 min ago when I ordered it. This young lady again made it seem like an outrageous request that I was asking where the food I had paid for was, she checked and they had no idea about it! Finally after 30 min I had my £8 panini !! £8!!!! No sides just a panini which was about 10cm long ??? Joke

Been here many times and we are never disappointed. The grounds are vast with plenty of space for the children to run off steam. The house is amazing and the farm is just awesome

Stunning place, the house is fabulous with lots of original features, it takes about 1.5 hours to look around if you want to appreciate the beauty of it. The gardens are beautiful too. We then visited the farm which was also amazing there was pigs, sheep, goats, chickens and donkeys some where in their pens others on the pastures which were all easy to walk around, it was easy to pet the animals too as all the fences were low, the farm also had tractors for children to ride on as well as a big play area I would recommend for children it was a great farm.
Finally we walked around the lake and to the walled gardens this was beautiful full of bright colours and very well looked after the flowers in the walled garden were stunning and some very rare!
A great day out at a cost of £12 pp for house, farm and gardens, well worth it.

We had our wedding at Temple Newsam in March 2023. Temple Newsam is a beautiful historical site which I visit frequently. This, together with the fact that me and my husband met there, left us with no hesitation that we wanted our wedding to take place there. The staff, particularly Ian & Josh, were helpful and always replied quickly to our queries. We were really happy with everything on the day which was amazing. The Walled Garden Marquee, also situated within the grounds of TN, is the perfect place to hold the evening reception.

Visited today for the first time and had the most fantastic experience. My husband and I brought my parents and due to my father’s mobility issues I had emailed earlier and requested the loan of a mobility scooter. This was waiting for us at the car park cabin on arrival and the attendant was incredibly helpful and friendly explaining everything carefully and having a joke with my Dad. Not only did he make sure my Dad felt confident with all the controls but also gave us lots of tips about where best to visit in the park. We spent an enjoyable couple of hours exploring the park before purchasing tickets to see the house. It was the most interesting house we had ever visited, filled with fantastic objects dating back hundreds of years. However the best bit was coming across an employee with the most incredible knowledge of the history of the property and all its contents. We spent the next half hour listening to his interesting facts about the house and owners over the years. Not only was his knowledge extensive but his passion for the property was obvious and afterwards we all said how much he had enhanced our enjoyment and experience. It was fascinating learning about Lord Darnley’s family although very sad and seeing how wood panelling had covered some beautiful wallpaper from over a 100 years ago. Thank you for making our visit so special.

Can you take a gas table top bbq or disposable bbq to have a picnic with at temple newsam?
Also can you put up a pop up gazebo? Bring camping chairs ect

New covid opening times etc. They do ask you follow social distancing and wear a mask indoors.
Grounds and gardens
Temple Newsam House: 11am-4pm, closed on Mondays
Home Farm: 10am-5pm,
Estate playground
Tea Rooms Café: Mon-Fri, 10am-4.30pm and Sat-Sun, 9.30am-5.30pm

Hello no I don’t think you can’t camp in the grounds I believe it is council land, you could wild camp but I don’t think it’s legal
