Quiet, tranquil and interesting walk through the marshes and the River Aire overflow. Nice shop at the start and clean facilities too.

Went to see the puffins, left with an obsession with all things sea birds! Unfortunately the weather was not our friend and we got drenched but it's a wonderful place. We'll be back but with better planning!

Stopped here on the way to holiday in Harrogate. The weather was amazing which certainly helped ! Had a super walk around the site, many lovely views. There were birds of different types too. Even i counted 14 different species.
Cafe was ok too.

We would like to reassure you that we take the welfare of animals on our land seriously. A herd of wild ponies have been grazing on land at St Aidan’s since 2023. These ponies are owned and managed by an independent grazier. We fully understand and share the recent concerns regarding the health of some of the ponies.
These concerns were immediately raised by us to the grazier, and we have since been working very closely with animal welfare charities, including Hope Pastures, World Horse Welfare, and the RSPCA. They have been extremely helpful, and we are grateful to them for their support.
The majority of the ponies were assessed by a vet as being in good health, however, seven were showing as underweight, and a new regime of care has been recommended. This is being acted upon by the grazier.
We have high expectations of any graziers using RSPB managed land for grazing livestock, including the expectation to hold high welfare standards for any animal they care for.
We have decided not to renew our contract with the grazier and the ponies have now left the site.
Thank you again for your concern and we hope to have provided reassurance that we have urgently taken the necessary steps for the ponies’ best interests.
If you have any other concerns please do get in contact at staidans@rspb.org.uk - Peggy

We came specifically to spot the Glossy Ibis, which is a pretty uncommon bird. Very good views of the bird! A knowledgeable and very friendly RSPB person made us feel very welcome and offered sound advice about where to go on the reserve - it's very large. It was new year's eve. Lots of dog walkers, some horse riders and people out for a walk, so not all birdwatchers by any means. Our main issue was the cafe which is small and was extremely busy. We had two takeaway flat whites. We discovered they weren't flat whites just black coffee, extremely bitter. There were 3 people 'serving' in the cafe but only one seemed to be doing the drinks from the machine. Either way they clearly didn't know how to operate the machine or didn't understand what a flat white was. A shame as the place deserves a much better and bigger cafe.

Had a lovely walk around St Adens even though parts of it are flooded after the storms last week. Plenty of bird spotters about so seemed busy but the walk was lovely and we avoided the flooded paths. Nice.

Hi Chris, Thank you for your review of RSPB St Aidan's we hope everyone receives a five star experience and so would love it if you pop an email to staidans@rspb.org.uk and let us know how we can improve the Nature Park for you.
Did you know that St Aidan's is part of a flood elevation scheme and by storing water on our wetland we can reduce down stream flooding by a height 40cm? This makes a big difference to whether or not peoples houses flood! - Peggy

Beautiful. Nature reserve with lots of wildlife to watch. Great paths around the lakes. Can have a short or long walk. Nice little cafe. A hidden gem, close to Leeds, but feels like the country. Super

Lovely place for a walk, as someone with nervous rescue dogs it’s great to see somewhere that instructs all to have dogs on a lead given the nature reserve and breeding grounds, however not one dog that we came into contact with was on a lead. Total lack of respect for instructions, don’t bother coming if you’re in the same position and trying to have a nice walk where you think other dogs will be under control!
Shame as it’s a lovely walk, even managed to take my grandma in a wheelchair which was great.

Hi Heather, Thank you for your review of RSPB St Aidan's. It's lovely to hear that you enjoyed the time that you spend here.
We are working with people to try and help people understand why it is important to have their dogs under close control, both for nature and also to make it an enjoyable experience for people like yourself.
It would be great to hear from you if you have been back and found a different experience, please do pop an email across to staidans@rspb.org.uk and let us know. - Peggy

Reserve was great. Kids really enjoyed it to be fair. Fairly decent selection of savoury and sweet. However, no staff to be seen at front of house, and one volunteer left on their own to serve a massive queue. The volunteer was left alone to serve while the paid staff were nowhere to be seen??? Views were astounding and overall a nice day out.

Hi Clive, Yes many of our paths are suitable for pushchairs. The main routes would be the path around Bowers Lake or the Reedbed Ramble, but please do talk to a member of our staff and volunteer team and they can show you which routes are accessible. - Peggy

Hi Emily, Yes many of our paths are bridleways and so suitable for cyclists. Some of the paths are footpaths, you can either check on the green signposts across the Nature Park, or chat to our staff and volunteer team who will point you in the right direction. - Peggy

Hi are any of the lakes open to swimmers/freedivers at all?
Kind regards,
Andy
撰写日期:2017年5月24日
Hi Andrew
Bowers Lake is in the recreation area because it has less conservation value that other bodies of water on the reserve. People do swim in Bowers but it is at their own risk.
Many thanks,
Sally

Is there a reopening date for the car park and visitors centre?
撰写日期:2017年3月6日
Hi Danny, the site has now transferred back to Leeds City Council but isn't an RSPB site yet. We're working with Leeds to get ready to open but don't have date yet unfortunately. If you keep an eye on the Fairburn Ings Twitter and RSPB West Yorks Facebook, we will be posting updates. Many thanks, Sally

Yes you can. There are lots of dog walkers around the site although as usual, there are some on leads, some not, etc.
Excellent place to go.
