Ok to walk past and take a photo of, as it's where Charles married Camilla, but you can't really go in. Saw a wedding party and a lovely bride on her big day!

I was getting thoroughly fed-up with Windsor, with the beggars and smell of weed at odds with the expensive shops. Luckily I came upon the Guildhall Museum near the castle and amongst interesting buildings. Entry was a very reasonable £2. The museum is quite small but nevertheless full of fascinating objects, but what I really liked was the diorama which was beautifully made and one of four which are rotated. As the room above (register office) was not being used , three of us were given a tour of the beautiful rooms. The main room was full of royal-related paintings and objects, but what really made the tour was the volunteer. Len had lots of stories about the portraits in the room - I learnt quite a lot!.The "royal gossip" - all very respectful - don't worry Your Majesty! - was fascinating.

A wonderful little museum, ideal to spend half an hour or so. The star though are the volunteers that give free tours. Such wonderful -and knowledgeable- people that freely offer very interesting tidbits for the Royals in Windsor. The whole town is so lovely to visit and walk around, not just the castle.

Records in Eton College show that a civic building has stood in this site since at least 1369. In the fifteenth century it was a courthouse. An early seventeenth century map shows a market house on pillars to enable the space below to house a covered corn market. The present building started by Sir Thomas Fitz in 1683 was completed by Sir Christopher Wren and was again built on columns this time made of stone for a market beneath. A two-storey rear extension was added in 1829. The Guildhall was a good office in World War II. More recently following the establishment of the Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in 1974 it has functioned as a venue for ceremonies and committee meetings; later this century as a Register Office. In 2011 the Queen opened the Windsor and Royal Borough Museum here.

During each of our three visits to Windsor, we have viewed the town’s fine town hall which is called the Windsor Guildhall because it was originally the meeting place for craft guilds. It has only been in more recent times that the building has been used as the meeting chamber for Windsor’s town councils.
Our most recent visit to Windsor, again saw us admiring the intricate exterior architecture of this small town hall. Its facade is dominated by columns and arches and the finely carved statues embedded in the wall above the arches on both ends of the entrance portico.
Whilst we were there this time, many other visitors were taking some time to admire and photograph this fine building.
A “must-see” location for any tourist spending time in Windsor!

Opposite the Castle and next to the statue of Queen Victoria, this elegant building is used for ceremonies and meetings in its upstairs rooms. Downstairs houses the Windsor and Royal Borough Museum, where once upon a time there was an open market. The facades on each side feature a nice stone statue and some well carved swags. An impressive public building.

While the Guildhall itself, a fine late 17th-century building designed by Sir Christopher Wren, is well worth checking out there are a number of other little things around it which greatly appealed to us. This included the seriously wonky shop next door, the plaque in Queen Charlotte Street suggesting it's the smallest street in England, and the entertaining quote on the wall of the next door pub. An interesting area to wander around.
