As part of a day out to Broadway, we included a visit to the Russell Gordon Design museum and we are so glad that we did because it is a hidden gem - hidden because it's up a back street and a gem because it will light you up. We called in during the morning, having booked tickets online although we didn't need to in February - we had the place to ourselves and the volunteer manning the museum that day, David, gave us a comprehensive and most enjoyable verbal tour of part of the downstairs area.
Upstairs, we recognised one of the utility pieces - we have two of those(!) The pieces of furniture in the museum are a wonder to behold and one has to question why such bold and clever designs are not being made to day.
We were encouraged to touch items, open drawers, see how the parts of the furniture work and fit together, as well as admire the pieces which makes a nice change.
The 'shop' in reception is small but comprehensive and we came away, having spent our pocket money happily.
If you visit Broadway, spare an amount of time for this museum - it is small but perfectly formed. You'll be glad that you did.

Exceptional small museum dedicated to Gordon Russell designs and the influence they had on British furniture design and production. Situated in one of the original workshops, we received a very warm and informative welcome, even to the extent of being encouraged to open drawers and cupboards on display.
An important reminder of Broadway’s pre and post war history and the significant local employer Gordon Russell Furniture was.
Our tickets allow a further free visit within next 12 months and a two-for-one offer at the nearby Museum of Craft and Design (Court Barn) at Chipping Campden.

Unlike most museums, we were invited to open drawers and generally handle the furniture on show. The film answered most of our questions and explained the early history perfectly.
The lady on duty took time to answer our questions and expanded our knowledge of the Russell family
Very few furniture companies like this exist today, that are design driven.

Really fascinating little museum. Only small but is comprehensive and staff are enthusiastic. It gives an excellent overview of his background and life and contains lots of examples of his work. Really top class museum.

What a fabulous museum, dedicated to a designer I feel ashamed never to have heard of as his designs are stunning. The museum is housed in one of his original Broadway workshops and is very hands-on, with visitors able to,open drawers and cupboards to fully appreciate the top level of craftsmanship used to create such fabulous pieces of furniture. My £5 entry ticket is valid for a year following purchase so I look forward to returning later in the year when I’ll have more time to spend admiring the pieces and learning more about this incredibly talented local man. The staff on duty today were very pleasant and informative, and the shop stocked some very tempting gifts and artefacts. Well worth a visit.

Well laid out small museum with nice gift shop. Entrance fee £5. Knowledgeable staff. Organised in chronological order lots of examples of Gordon Russel desired and manufactured furniture.

What a gem in the Cotswolds. If you have any interest in design, don't miss it. The very knowledgeable guide explained many pieces of furniture to us, and showed us details you'd never get to look at anywhere else. I knew about Gordon Russell but not this museum, so it was a pleasant surprise. Fascinating life and work and what a huge impact he had on British design. It will only take an hour of your time, but you will be richly rewarded.

Situated just behind the main road on Broadway, the museum is an interesting gem and must-see if you’re visiting the area or are into design. The volunteers are enthusiastic and knowledgeable and clearly have Gordon Russell close to their hearts. Its history is inherently linked to the history of the local area, especially the nearby Lygon Arms.

This is a superb museum if you are into design. The history of the Arts and Crafts movement is well presented and documented here.
