Every year I bring forward the dates of when we have visited National Trust locations/houses across the 25 years we have been members and now retired this year we have been adding new places - 8 new ones so far in 2024 including Hafod.
The walks are lovely and the surrounding area is beautiful - only negative where the self service cafe is sited, which includes the NT office, there are no toilet facilities not even a portaloo. This needs rectifying. There is a portaloo in the top car park near the Church which is poorly maintained and had no sanitiser or toilet paper. Poor reflection on the NT.

Absolutely breathtaking scenery. The Gentleman’s walk had great variety, woodland, waterfalls, trails and wider tracks and some absolutely stunning views. Will definitely be back.

Absolute gem of a location. Stunning scenery and so many choices for walks. Some that are easy and short while others were more challenging but very worthwhile. A real treasure of a location.

We chose the blue "Ladys' walk" which took us about 90 minutes, through woodland, fields, riverbank and through it all, the scenery is fabulous. The paths are easy to follow and there are many photographic opportunities along the way.
Despite the post markers for each route, paying £2 for the map was a good investment.

Lovely woodland walk around Hafod estate. There are several routes to choose from. We went on the blue one which took about an hour and half. Mostly easy but a little steep on our return, (we went anticlockwise) . Lovely river running alongside some of the route, small waterfalls, amazing views.

We spent a lovely afternoon here, a surprise around every corner. Lovely walk through lots of hand made sculptures, beautiful Lily pond. Gay and her husband were friendly with lots of information. It’s a bit tricky to find but well worth a visit. Take the turning at the school and follow the signs till you get to a fork in the road, take the left one over the cattle grid.

Spent a wonderful morning here, walking the trails, following the river, photoing the waterfalls etc, peace & quiet, far from the madding crowds in October. Be aware some of the trails are quite steep, in fact you might find your nose rubbing the floor in some places, still, it’s well worth it !

I don’t know the area and I wonder if anyone can give me some useful directions where to park and start walking please. The website only says hafod is 15 miles from Aberystwyth... on the b4574 between pontrhydygroes and cwmydtwyth. And the car park is half way between both. Some reviews say park at the church. Can anyone help with a postcode please for my satnav. Or can I aim for a landmark and it’s signed from there? Thanks

not on the estate or in the forest itself but there's a brilliant little cafe about a 7minute drive away in Pontrhydygroes called the 'Cwtch'. they're well worth a visit: filter coffees, homemade cakes (including gluten free ones), daily lunch specials for an absolute steal and all made from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients! I walk the Hafod estate regularly and always try to pop into the Cwtch on my way back home, it's well worth a stop off and it's open all day and I think it's open 7days a week including Sundays.

I don't know about the easiest. We did the lady's route (blue route I think) which took around 2-3 hours to complete although we did have kids. There were some big hills, but very little mountainous terrain.
There's a yellow route which is probably less than half this distance. We haven't done it but from the map which I took a photo of, it doesn't appear as if you go into the valley like on our route, so my guess is it'll cut out the hills (not guaranteed) but you might miss out on some stunning views.
If you took the ladies route heading west, there are some steepish but man-made gravel paths leading down towards the waterfall. You could be there in 10 mins.
