Down a country lane and you find this great example of a castle with a moat.
Great to look around and just imagine what life was like. Great architecture and history here.
Free to enter. Car park was small.

This is a fabulous castle- you can really get a feel for how it once was with the castle and the outside keep area- which is perfect for picnics in fine weather.
No charge to enter and in a beautiful spot. Interesting info board relates how Rudolph Hess - the then deputy fuhrer -was taken there to feed the swans when he was held down the road near Abergavenny...after he had left Nazi Germany and crashed his plane in Scotland. How thoroughly decent the UK was to take him to somewhere so picturesque and allowed him to paint and feed the swans!

this is another castle worth a visit small carpark but it is up very narrow lanes but once inside you will plenty of room as it is very big

Searched out his castle along narrow roads but free entree and more than we expected, perfect picknic area and free car parking.

Very bracing place to go, often see children able to charge around with so much space, wonderful that you can walk all the way round it. Can get the car right up there. No amenities but a couple of benches to perch and still be in sight of the castle and people.

A wonderful castle close to Monmouth and Abergavenny. Very beautiful and well preserved castle. Some parking available. A small village with very few amenities. No cost to visit. The children love visiting this castle.

We were staying just a few minutes from the castle so marched up the hill after dinner to find it deserted. There is a £3 entry fee in a sort of honesty box app thing that we couldn't get to work.
We walked around for half an hour or so, watching the sun set.
It would have made a great spot for a picnic. It's a short visit, not a morning out.
Lovely place.

Been before but always a nice place to visit. It's not huge and you can't go up to high vantage points but it is what most would think of as a proper castle, with a water filled moat. It's in a very nice spot.

This is just a small ruined castle. Setting is lovely and its very well kept. There is no entry fees and we can also have picnic in the grounds. It is located in one of the Walking trail, so good stopping place for Walkers.

A huge castle to explore, bit disappointed we couldn’t climb up to the top tower, but maybe health and safety issue. Also we couldn’t walk all the way around the moat, but still very impressive!
Well worth a visit.
