The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is truly a marvel of engineering and a must-visit for anyone who appreciates history, architecture, or simply breathtaking landscapes. Spanning over 1,000 feet across the River Dee Valley in North Wales, this UNESCO World Heritage site is the longest and highest aqueduct in Britain. Great views but be prepared for lots of traffic - narrowboats, canoes and kayaks. You can also walk across the aqueduct.

Lovely tree lined walk from the car park to the aquaduct and then along the same. Beautiful country views as you walk along. An amazing feat of engineering too! This is worth a visit on your way through this area. Car parks nearby where you stop and walk. We probably spent an hour all up. Enjoyable break if you are travelling the area.

We enjoyed our trip here. We walked out along the aqueduct. You need to be really careful with young children, as there is no railing on the waterside and the railings on the path side are reasonably widely spaced. We also walked down to the river's edge, but it is difficult to get a good view past all the trees.

Fantastic - A canal on a bridge - YES - a canal on a bridge!
A great time was had by all. You can take a short round boat trip across the aquaduct and also walk accross it if you don't think you will jump. Other shapes of boat are available, usualy long and narrow.
Ice cream and stuff is available at the Trevor end, and there is a tea room only a two minute walk away that has the biggest teapots I have ever seen, and I have seen a few believe me.
Definaltely worth a visit even if its an hour or so away.

We booked the "Little Star" narrow boat trip across the aqueduct, you get to cross twice. The trip took approximately 45 minutes and the tour guide Chelsea was witty and informative. The weather was nice and the views were spectacular, I good way to kill a bit of time if passing by the area.

Great little trip although it is only a little trip lol. Weather was bad so ruined it for us as couldn't see out the windows properly unfortunately. But I'm sure in a clear nice sunny day it would of been better.

Went over the aquaduct on a canoe with my husband through TyNant. Had a brilliant canoeing experience and the views were absolutely amazing! Would definitely recommend it.

Awesome, what a sight but not for the faint hearted, fear of height's.
An hour or so is enough to see the aquaduct and walk across unless you want to book a canal trip.
Amble around the canal basn, and watch the barges navigate across it .
A lot of entertainment for no cost.

Are you allowed to ride across the viaduct on either a motorbike or a cycle?

I don't know, but whether they are banned or not riding either would be extremely unwise, and would be dangerous to other users because the towpath is far too narrow.

Hi, I'm planning a walk with friends that includes the Aqueduct, however I am really scared of heights. Is there an alternative route (road, footpath, etc) below so that I could meet my friends at the other side if I can't face going across? Thank you!

Just as the folks above said. We’ve been back and forth twice, and it’s closest boat enters and others wait. Sometimes you’ll see two or three go together because they’re near one another, but no one seems to care. It’s life in the slow lane.

To walk across the aqueduct not ideal for pram but you can walk round on road or go on boat. Also you can hire boat from jones Trevor

You can walk from Trevor to other side of bridge aqueduct to fron a nice walk the canal both sides of aqueduct nice walk good pathways Llangollen do a canal boat pulled by horse. You can also go to fron aqueduct and from fron end go under bridge to other side of canal.
