Must visit museum in Brecon, home to Welsh regiment and Gurkhas. I'm a big fan of the movie Zulu (although not 100% historically accurate) and madly interested in the whole history of Anglo Zulu war histor. Packed full of exhibits, war medal room, amount and a room dedicated to the battle of Rourke's drift in 1879. The dioramas were amazing. Made me very reflective of the impact of war and the sacrifices made by So many as well as the individual stories. So glad I finally made it here.

A relatively small building set back from the main road, hides an absolute mountain of facts and items gathered over the last couple of hundred years. The ground floor area has a few rooms with various displays from different wars and the uniforms, weapons and equipment in use at that time. Its easy to spend an hour here enjoying the museum without getting brain overload!! The displays of medals including VC's are staggering. It a must see and very inexpensive.

Lovely informative war musueum. My eldest was going around reading all the information, and my youngest two enjoyed trying the uniforms on & the arts and crafts making warrior zulu shields. The lady with the long brown hair was lovely and showed them what to do.

Excellent experience, museum was brilliant, met by a very nice and helpful lady, we really enjoyed the experience lots of interesting information, interesting to look at all the information with regards to Rorkes Drift always been interested after watching the film Zulu, definitely well worth a visit.

Great little museum. Have been to Brecon on several occasions, but not really noticed this museum before. It is only small, (and the price reflects this), but well worth a visis, particularly for the "Zulu" exhibits.

Seems quite a small museum, but it's packed with Welsh Regimental history, including 1st and 2nd WW and famously the Roukes Drift Zulu encounter.

Absolutely fantastic army museum. The man who who was running the museum on the day we went was really friendly. The museum part about the Zulu war was amazing. Really worth a lion round if your in the area

What a wonderful museum. Friendly staff. Every room was a delight to see. The medals room was really impressive and moving. I would have loved more biographical details about the soldiers especially those with gallantry awards. The VC display was very moving. One soldier had won the top three gallantry medals in WW1 , the VC , DCM & MM. it would have been wonderful to see all the citations for his awards. The armoury had an amazing collection of guns, both old & new. The room dedicated to the Zulu battles was excellent. I hadn’t appreciated how small assegais were. There was a fantastic collection of artefacts. There were touching letters on display. One of the best small museums I have ever visited

If in the Brecon area, this is a must for anyone with a military interest. The Zulu Room was of particular interest for me and I spent ages looking around the displays. The Curator had very kindly agreed to show me an item of particular interest from the archives which I had requested in advance. She and the other staff were friendly and very helpful. As well as the Zulu Room, there are other areas showing the history of the Royal Regiment of Wales, together with an armoury room and a medals room.

Really interesting. Crammed full of medals, including Victoria Crosses,exhibitions. The stories behind some of the medals is so moving. Really worth a visit if you like war memorabilia.

l have a party of 14-16 of ex-servicemen/women to visit on 24 -October-2015,how much will it cost us and would you know a good place to go for refreshments

Hi, if you go on the museum websiteit says its currently £5 each as well as info on parking, times open, etc.
As where to eat in Brecon? I cant really say as we eat back at the Caravan site at Talybont-on-usk for their is Beer festival.
Beerfest on again around 10th October this year c u there !
