a bit busy at sunny friday. many ship come and go out so that the bridge open and close many time. anyway. good for stay here and visit end of road that has lovely small house.

Love the barrage walk whatever the weather. Kids love to see the barrage in action letting the boats through. Plenty of rest stops and toilets. Plenty of ice cream vans. A cracking little sandy play park halfway. Plenty of parking. Cool little features like the roald Dahl sculptures and the coal statues. Not all that far to walk the whole way round to the bay attractions

Although a Cardiff local, this was the first time I've actually walked across the barrage to Penarth.
It was very enjoyable indeed: beautiful sunshine, a cool breeze and the sea/bay views made my leisurely stroll across this marvel of civil engineering a real - and free! - pleasure.
It's also very popular with cyclists, who can ride on the car-free road at no risk to the pedestrians.
My target destination was the sea-food restaurant on the Penarth side of the barrage, much appreciated as the sea air, as we know, never fails to work up an appetite.

Had a couple of hours to kill between business meetings, so checked out this barrage area. A n interesting walk was had, made a nice change

although we found that the idea of the barrage creating a freshwater area did not mean it was a drinking reservoir. More for water sports. Lovely walk to the barrage.

We took the boat from the bay to the Barrage single trip then walked back took about 45 mins good walk

Sailing out through the barrage is always an easy experience. Professional staff maintain the operation in a friendly manner. Always willing to help if they can.
Each lock is very deep, and the pump out is smooth. Once the outer gate opens it is an easy bit of navigation out to the buoyed channel.
Returning through the barrage is equally easy, however it is important to ensure that you have good moorings, especially if near the inbound gate. The water does become quite rough.

Nice walk over the locks and barrage into the bay. A nifty piece of engineering to be admired and a good walk over to the bay area. I'm not a fan of cardiff bay, but the walk is good, only spoiled by lycra clad cyclists who rate themselves as a priority over pedestrians and refuse to slow up when appeoaching, thinking they're in the olympics. These lumps don't sound a bell and show no care for the families with small children on scooters or little bikes. Other than these oafs, its a good place for families, with a park, enormous crocodile and water park too. Forget parking in cardiff, park penarth side. More space and easier. You can fish for free too. Lack of toilets though from what i could see.

We previously took a water taxi ride to look at the reclaimed land that formed the Cardiff Bay barrage.
This time we walked around the area. It is stunning to see how this area has been transformed but it is better to explore it by boat.
