Lovely building and spectacular grounds, but what really top it off is the team of staff/volunteers. Each and every person couldn’t be any more helpful, friendly,engaging and passionate. A good few hours out and well worth a visit.

A very interesting and informative visit with my French Group. The staff/guides were excellent in explaining the history of the house & family and indeed revealed many little snippets to us. A very worthwhile visit.

Interesting house, staffed by people who are happy to inform you about its history. Gardens are well kept and easy to stroll around. Coffee shop provides a nice selection of cakes!

This has some great gardens. The house is amazing to see it through different era’s. The staff were friendly and very informative. The ground were big plenty of places for picnic or walk. Cafe was great too. The food and coffee was really enjoyable. Would recommend and return.

A good set up to enter the house and park well planned out to follow the route
We walked through the gardens and enjoyed the outside space before entering the house-which gave a real in-site into the family and its history
The Morgan family ruled over the house and its grounds, a couple even took part at the charge of the light brigade and the Crimean war
One member of the family is Henry Morgan who was actually classed as a pirate of the Carabbean
If I remember correctly the last of the Morgan's at the house liked to spend way to much and enjoyed the dark arts which ended with the loss of the house
Became a Catholic girls school before Newport turned it into a museum and then finally leased it to the National Trust
The cafe was good and the book shop was the best i have been in on a national trust property this house is well worth a visit to see the different time periods under one roof

One of the best national trust houses around. Great car parking, friendly staff, beautiful house with lots of different rooms to see including extensive kitchens. A really good visit and we will be back next time we are in the area.

Really enjoyed our visit to Tredegar House. We visited a long time ago and at that time we were taken around by a guide, now we just wandered around ourselves, the friendly guides in the rooms were interesting and knowledgeable. The house itself is lovely inside and well curated with interesting information. I’d give it 5 stars but the cafe wasn’t great…food was lovely, but I’m allergic to dogs, there were 4 or 5 dogs inside, that’s too many for me as it can trigger an asthma attack… so we ate quickly and left as more dogs were turning up…so definitely wouldn’t go back in there!

Called in Friday 3 February for lunch.
As I approached cafe counter,skinny old server turned her back to me and consulted the menu card that her colleague had started to alter.
When this task had finished,the skinny server had no option but to serve me.
She glanced at me,then turned to walk into the kitchen.
Another server came out of the kitchen and asked me if I had been served.
I was so annoyed at this rude treatment,I told the new,pleasant server to forget it,and walked away.

A very interesting house, orangery and stables. We spent 2 hours around the house etc and found the room guides very knowledgeable giving us just the right amount of information. It will be lovely when all the decorations are lit up in a few days. Lunch was great too. Thank you.

One of the best NT houses we have visited. The interiors were excellent and really allowed you to understand the way the house was used and the family and staff who lived and worked there. Lots to see with a good number of rooms open, don't miss the amazing carvings and the below stairs spaces including a huge kitchen and servants hall. All the staff we spoke to were helpful and as always with the NT were happy to talk about the history of the house.
Visited the cafe and thought it was perfectly fine, didn't see any dogs having a wee by the door or running amok unlike other reviews; maybe we were just lucky?
Outside the gardens are small but well kept, there is a large orangery and a very impressive stable block.
Walking around outside is to the soundtrack of the M4 but it's not the houses fault the motorway got built where it did.

that’s the national trust for you they have nothing more than taking your money with the pretence of saving the heritage when in fact it keeps it for itself with the minimum of the cheapest care. I will never join or pay for them

Hi,
Yes, they have no problem with dogs in the grounds. When you have parked up, pop into the NT office and they will even give you a "dog walkers" guide showing walks and areas that dogs can run free or have to be under control. The walk around the lake is a nice one for both dogs and owners.
Enjoy your trip, the house is worth a look around too, however, not too sure if they will allow dogs in there.

It's a big car park. Best thing to do is to drop your father off in the bottom corner, near to the NT entrance, if that's possible. That's the closest place to the tea room. Then go and park before coming back and walking with him the remaining 100 yards or so. It's all flat and no steps as far as I can remember.
