This is a very lively place for the party goers, lot's of restaurants and good taxi service. Very good bars in the area.

What started out as history of alcohol drinking venues has shrunken into modernization...mostly essential...not enough to see to be worth the time

This place has seen better days. The Dublin road has a few good places but the rest of the Golden Mile has deteriorated over the years. I spent quite a few nights in this area in my younger years but it can be quite dodgy in some parts now. The Cathedral Quarter has become the area to head to now. How times have changed.

When in Rome... We had a lads weekend in Belfast, Ireland. The Golden Mile is the best place to start your Irish memories.

Yes I know, it is really the wrong time to go to the golden mile, truly the golden mile should be enjoyed late on a Saturday night with your mates etc. Anyway, this is the area that every city has where all the pubs, clubs and restaurants are all crammed in amongst many other offices shops, tourist landmarks etc, it is the latter that I came here to enjoy!
Really nice architecture all around, and a lovely place for a stroll around on a Sunday morning, do visit, Belfast is a beautiful city!

The poor old Golden Mile is a mere shadow of it's former glories, which to be fair was a good 25 years ago, I wouldn't blame students, I'd blame the gradual shift of people towards the Cathedral Quarter where the more well heeled revellers tend to congregate, as it is, the Golden Mile (more like 1/4 mile) tends to be the stomping ground for wannabe paramilitaries and inebriated women wearing clothes several sizes too small. It really has got nothing to recommend it any more.

This so called "golden mile" epitomises the fall from grace of a once very good entertainment and leisure thoroughfare. It once boasted top class restaurants,bars and night life,alas it has fallen into disrepair. There has been a relocation to other parts of the city.

This area was once the Golden Mile, then the area became populated by students and since then the recession has hit. Last month, the last big attraction, being Paul Rankin's restaurant Ceyanne which is located in that area, announced that it was closing and the reasoning was how rundown this area has become. There are of course the odd good bars such as Lavertys but it is mainly KFC, even the clothes stores and the Spar have now been closed down, there are a large number of kebab based shops.
I would recommend that a more suitable Golden Mile would be the area around the Crown Bar, you have fantastic bars there and restaurants that surpass those in the Shaftesbury Square area and are less than a ten minute walk away and in the city centre. Irene and Nan's, Fibber McGee's, the cocktails in the Washington, Red Panda, Olios, Bourbon and for those wanting something more takeout - there is Little Italy, best pizza takeaway in Belfast.

I pass through the golden mile every day on my way to and from work, and sometimes at night going out with my friends. What can I say, it's great, there's all the nightlife of Belfast, which at the same time can get quite rough at times.
