Pre-booked ticket for Wednesday in September - got there around 10.30 – we were amongst the first visitors.
Our journey started in the well-appointed Visitor Centre that contained 4 rooms of introduction - following not only 4 featured families who emigrated to America but also the constant stream Irish emigrants over a 200-year period – with many more leaving after the 1845 Famine - even today the population of Island of Ireland does not exceed the pre-famine total.
Outside of the visitor centre it is a story of 2 halves – firstly your journey starts with buildings drawn from Ireland - reconstructed on site - poor to rich – concluding with a street of shops - guides in costume scattered amongst the houses - then you step through a sailing ship and you are taken to Baltimore and from there to the houses/farms/homesteads of the Irish settlers as they made new lives from the East coast to the Great Plains and beyond.
The first part of the tour was very good – the guides were very engaging - thanks to the blacksmith - the lady making soda bread - the gentleman in the Mellon house who brought the cultivation of flax to life – the transition from the USA was less informative with fewer guides and greater distances between the dwellings
We were lucky with the weather that stayed dry, and we were able to pass an enjoyable 2+ hours – this is a good museum with a strong story to tell and well worth visiting – thank you.

This is an unmissable experience. It tells the story of Ulster emigration to the New World through an excellent interpretive centre, and then a walk through the landscape and buildings of 19th century Ulster, through a replica ship and into the USA where you walk past and visit authentic American homes from log cabins to stone and brick houses. It also acknowledges the injustices perpetrated agains Native Americans and enslaved people.

This folk park is a real gem to visit. It is more than just the buildings as I found out there, its the story of Ulster in the 18th and 19th century and of Thomas Mallon who emigrated from Ulster, The park is in 2 parts. one shows the buildings of Ulster at that time and the second shows the houses where the emigrants settled in the United States.
The dividing part is a reconstruction of a ship and dockside in the town street where we boarded the ship and walked through to a reconstruction of a U.S. street. The guides in the different buildings were great and told us of the history of the buildings and what the people who would have lived in such a house did. A worth while trip.

A really well laid out and interesting place, but the real stand out for me was the staff, from the minute you walk into the admissions area you are welcomed and treated really well. The people in the houses and shops are so knowledgeable and excited to tell you all the history. Big shout out to the gentleman in the American store, and the gentleman in the last American house, who answered my questions with patience and enthusiasm, even though he was actually on his break.

Fabulous experience and great value for money. We spent 3 hours at the park and even though my ancestors emigrated to Australia rather than the USA the experience would have been similar as it was at the same time period

The emigrants exhibition correctly highlighted the impact of european migration on indigenous peoples. However the same impact on the local native irish population by Scottish and English migration during part of the same period is ignored. This selective acknowledgement of the suffering of the disenfranchised and displaced seems disingenuous

Unspoilt family fun a journey into history and the over to Baltimore in America. Follow the lives of the Mellon family as they journey from one to the other and their fortune. Plenty for the kids to do. Massive cafe with a variety of food, a well stocked shop. Budget friendly. We were a family of three adults two kids and two concessions. They did us a family ticket and two concessions. This is the third place we have been to this week that have done this for us. Everyone was friendly and we took the time to listen to the story they were weaving of the families who made the journey.

What an amazing day out .A Real step back into the lives of all the poor people who left Ireland in search of a better life in America and unfortunately for some the reality was much different .
To see the real homes people lived in, rebuilt brick for brick in the folk park.
Beautiful setting , spotlessly clean, lots of picnic areas if you'd like to bring your own lunch ,coffee shop onsite also.I really could not recommend it highly enough as a fun educational day out to spend with friends and family.

Good Afternoon.
There is very little distance between exhibit buildings and the majority of the outdoor site is on even and level ground. We have 2 short cobbled streets on which you need to negotiate the uneven surfaces but they are not too long in distance terms. We have several benches located on the site for you to rest on as you tour around. Wheelchairs & Mobility Scooters are available on a first come first served basis. Hope you will consider visiting us soon. Regards.
