visited The Bookhouse in Broughty Ferry while staying in the area for 6 nights, it was a lovely little shop, small yet still so spacious and full of stock. like if the tardis were a book shop. i bought 3 mini hardbacks from the "Macmillian Collector's Library" range and they're brilliant, so impressed i discovered them as i'd never heard of the collection before and glad i found the particular ones i got. myself and my dad went into the store, the man i was served by came over to tell us more about the books and was nice and conversational. i don't have much experience of independent book stores as there aren't many where i live but this was a great impression, a valued part of the last day in our time away.

Stopped off here for coffees on what was a freezing cold day. What a lovely warm and welcoming place. The coffees were delicious, and, although we didn't have anything to eat this time, the home bakes looked very tempting. Then of course we had a browse round the bookshop too. Great ambience right on Monifieth's High Street.

nice little bookshop but stairs are awful steep and not very accessiblle coffee bit on ground level really nice but think i would rather have books downstairs and coffee on upper floor

I sometimes fidn myself in unexpected places. This was one of them. I haven't been in Monnifieth for years and suddenly I'm through it twice in a few weeks. As a writer I was invited to drop in by a writer pal. What a nice wee spot. Good coffee, comfy chairs and books to read. I like it. If you're driving by, I'd recommend a stop.

Please support this little gem of a book shop. They do coffees, caramel shortcake and paninis and the upstairs book shop is quite magical.

It would probably be independent (check!), have friendly, knowledgable owners (check!), a good selection of popular and more obscure titles (check!), enough books but not so many to be overwhelming (check!), comfy seating, a fire, nice furniture (check!), fresh coffee and home baking? I don't mind if I do, thank you! (check!).
