We took a customized tour of Outlander sites, historic locations, some general sightseeing as part of a transfer from Edinburgh to Glasgow, with Kevan. It could not have been better. He showed us everything we wanted and much more. We even got to feed the coos. We highly recommend this company.

For our first visit to Scotland we wanted to find a company that would be able to take us (five family members which included two teens and three adults) and all our luggage on a five-day trip through the Highlands. What we found with Edinburgh Black Cab was that and so much more.
We met our guide/driver Kevan in Edinburgh and the fun began. Kev was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly loves his country. Kev figured out pretty quickly what would work best for our group. The key concept was flexibility. We had a general idea of what we wanted to see and do but not many of the specifics. Kev was perfect in adjusting our trip on the fly, and maximizing what we were able to see and do under any conditions. When we discovered that a road to one of our planned stops was blocked by a traffic accident, he immediately reconfigured and added some stops that we hadn’t known about but were excellent replacements. Kev was a wizard in knowing the time it took between stops and when we had to be at a specific place at a specific time, he got us there in plenty of time for us to enjoy.
Throughout the trip, Kev was excellent in describing the things about Scotland that we would not have known and made our entire experience that much more complete and rewarding. If we had tried to do this trip ourselves we would have missed out on so much.
A number of reviewers have said about their drivers from Edinburgh Black Cab tours that they started out as guides and ended up as friends. I can attest that this is true. All of us were very impressed with Kev, and indeed felt as though we made a new Scottish friend. I’d have a pint or a wee dram with Kev anytime. Bottom line is that I cannot recommend this company highly enough. We would absolutely use them again for touring around Scotland. Edinburgh Black Cab is the real deal. Thanks again for making our trip to Scotland perfect!

We booked the Highland Experience Tour. Because of the high rating, we had very big expectations. In short, they were blown out of the water. We could not have asked for a better driver/guide for our tour. David was friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and an overall joy to spend the day with. We started the day by heading out of the city to Doune Castle. The castle was beautiful and we were able to explore at our own pace. We then headed to meet the Highland coos Baxter and Hamish. Honey was being anti-social. We absolutely adored meeting and getting to feed them. A highlight of the tour (much to the amusement of David). As we headed further into the Highlands, David made some suggestions for additional stops along our route for pictures and just to enjoy the scenery. Not once did he steer us wrong (pun intended). After our stop for lunch, we continued on our exploration of the Highlands with our turn around at Glencoe Visitor Center. On the way back, we continued to enjoy the scenery while chatting with David. It was one of the only times I’ve been in a car that long that I was sad for it to end. Loved everything about the day and would recommend both Edinburgh Black Cab Tours and David to any one that asks (and maybe some that don’t).

We used Black Cab for a private tour for 2 couples. I wanted to spend more time in St. Andrew’s that the organized tours from our cruise line allowed. Steve was our driver and was great to work with. He took us to areas that bus would not have been able to get to. Provided great insights about St Andrews and surrounding area. He was flexible and a pleasure to work with. Also, the vehicle was clean, new and very comfortable with plenty of room.

We took two days with Kevan of Edinburgh Black Cab Tours-- the first day was the Ultimate Outlander Tour and the second day was the Edinburgh tour. He was prompt at picking us up and returning us to the cruise port each day. He was very knowledgeable, accommodating, professional, and even made a few stops out of the way at our request. He is also a fantastic driver and so personable! We loved seeing all of the sites, learned a great deal about history, Scottish culture and food and had many laughs with Kevan. We were with another couple and this was a highlight of our trip. Highly recommend Kevan !

This was my second year touring with them, and once again, EBC crushes it! Everything about planning and touring with them is smooth, easy, and enjoyable. Communication via email with Steve is quick, efficient, and thorough. The private tours are customizable, and the flexibility of planning what YOU want to see is a priceless perk of this company -- you can't get that with others. The prices are reasonable, you get a private car (no large group tours to navigate), and the guides are locals who are knowledgeable and fun! I already cannot wait to get back to Scotland and tour again with them!
Once again, Charlotte completely made my trip to Scotland! She customized the three days to make sure my friend and I both saw things we wanted to see -- some were repeats for me, but still equally enjoyable as last year! Other stops were new and surprises, which was thrilling! I cannot recommend her and EBC enough.

Our group of four senior ladies was looking for someone to drive us from our home base in Edinburgh's New Town to New Luce in southwest Scotland, a three-hour drive, arriving in time for our four-hour Highland cow tour at Kitchen Coos and Ewes, wait for us, and then return us to Edinburgh after the tour. We had no idea where to begin but chose to contact Edinburgh Black Cab Tours because of their outstanding reputation. Within 24 hours of emailing them via their website, and asking if this would be possible, I received a response that it would be their pleasure to do this for us. It was very, easy and communication was so quick and pleasant that we decided to book several day tours with them, both those on their website and some bespoke tours, customized to specifically what we wanted to see and do, as well as an airport transfer for our fight home.
The choice to book Edinburgh Black Cab Tours turned out to be the best we could have made as each day we spent with their driver/guides gave us the most incredible experiences and memories imaginable.
Our first tour was their St Andrews/East Neuk of Fife with Stephen, who greeted us at our door with his welcoming smile and dressed in a kilt. We knew immediately this tour was going to be great fun! Right from the beginning he asked of our interests and suggested stops along the way that we might enjoy. Our Outlander fans were beyond thrilled when he suggested a stop at Midhope Castle (Lallybroch); and those interested in learning about and bringing home some fine Scottish whisky were delighted with a stop and tasting at Lindores Abbey Distillery. We shopped and had tea and scones in Falkland where Stephen demonstrated his delightful sense of humor with a pose at the Bruce Fountain. In St Andrews we toured the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral, drove through the grounds of St Andrews University and even had our picture taken on the Swilcan Bridge on the Old Course before shopping at The Golf Shop of St Andrews for gifts. After a beautiful drive along the east coast, we stopped at Anstruther for a walk along the harbor and more photos. By the end of our day, it was hard to say “Goodbye” to Stephen who had shown us such a wonderful day. When I expressed my astonishment that we were able to include a surprise visit to Lallybroch on this tour, Stephen remarked “All you have to do is ask.”; and that was so true with all our Edinburgh Black Cab Tour guides.
Our second tour was with Charlotte on our bespoke tour to Doune Castle, Inveraray Castle and St Conan's Kirk. Charlotte had been our contact person and was always so pleasant and a delight to work with, even when we asked to make a couple day changes to our itinerary. I was especially looking forward to having her as one of our guides, knowing she was featured in a segment of the show 'Men In Kilts' as a Death Historian and hoped to get her insights of that experience. Her knowledge of Scotland's history and people was extraordinary and so interesting. And she also asked us of our interests and suggested a couple wonderful stops; one to Linlithgow Palace, the sight of another Outlander film location (Wentworth Prison), where we toured the palace ruins; and the other was a visit to the Highland cows, Hamish, Honey and Baxter, at the Trossachs Woollen Mill where she demonstrated her “cow whisperer” skills with Honey. Very impressive. The day flew by and, once again, it was hard to say “Goodbye” to Charlotte who had made our day so special.
Our third tour was the one we had originally inquired about, a three-hour drive to southwest Scotland where we had booked a four-hour tour at Kitchen Coos and Ewes which started at 2:00pm. This time our driver/guide was Steve who, in spite of the distance, traffic, and rain through Glasgow, planned this trip perfectly, getting us to our destination 5 minutes early. We begged Steve to join us on our tour as there was room on our reservation and he graciously agreed. Spending the day and this wonderful tour with him was a real treat for all of us as we shared our memories of this exceptional experience all the way back to Edinburgh. As with Stephen and Charlotte, we expressed how touring with Edinburgh Black Cab Tours made us feel like we were touring with family and Steve replied, “Meet as strangers but leave as friends...that's just how we want you to feel!” And that is exactly how we felt after each and every tour, including our last day when Steve who, after masterfully loading all our luggage into the vehicle like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, drove us to the airport for our flight home...all in the comfort and stress-free style we had come to know. And once again another very sad "Goodbye".
Our fourth tour was their Loch Ness Tour with Kevan, a mountain of a man with a booming voice and dressed in his red plaid kilt and blue Harris Tweed jacket and waistcoat...this old lady's ideal of a right, brawny, Scot for sure...and judging by the number of times he was asked to have his picture taken, the same for others as well. Kevan thrilled us by taking us to Loch Ness by way of Inverness and asking if we'd like to visit Clava Cairns and Culloden Battlefield along the way. While passing through Pithlochry I mentioned I'd heard they sell Heathergems here and Kevan took us directly to the shop where they make and sell them. After a wonderful, leisurely tour of Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness we were off to Glencoe, stopping along the way for pictures, a closeup view of a waterfall and to see and feel real Scottish heather along the road. Kevan was so much fun with his hearty laugh, heavy accent and delightful turn-of-phrase, and the best, although devilish, sense of humor...tourist burgers indeed! Another long day that flew by and very sad “Goodbye”, ...but with so many wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.
Our fifth and sixth tours were with Mark, a tall, athletic Scot in a kilt who possessed an incredible wealth of knowledge about Scotland and enjoys traveling in the US. He was so willing to go the extra mile to make our tours extra special for us, even turning the vehicle around so we could get that special picture of something we had passed by too quickly or to see more heather close up. Our tours with him were their Balmoral Tour with stops at Braemar, Queen's View and a hike through the Hermitage; and a bespoke tour to the Kelpies at night to see them illuminated.
The special events on the grounds at Balmoral the day we toured were, a live, outside performance of A Mid Summer's Night Dream, a barbecue where we ate cheese burgers while sitting on the front lawn of the castle, and a Raptor demonstration where guest were allowed to hold these magnificent birds of prey including a Great Horned Owl, Tawny Owl, Barn Owl, Falcon, American Harris Hawk, and an American Bald Eagle. Mark was able to drive us up the long, uphill, driveway, right to the castle grounds so I didn't have to walk so far as I have mobility issues and use a cane. There was a vintage bus that took guest who chose not to walk, on a ride to view the outer regions of the grounds. We were allowed to tour the grounds for as long as we wished and just sent a text to Mark to pick us up when we were ready to leave. At the Hermitage, Mark led the way, even straying from the main path a bit to look for a hidden cave as a special treat for us. Even though this was a very long day, Mark never rushed us, encouraging us to take all the time we wanted.
As we were drawing near the end of our 13-day trip, we mentioned to Mark a couple things we were still hoping to see in Edinburgh before our return home, namely Calton Hill and Dean Village. With my limited mobility I was unsure if it would be possible for me to visit these special sights. Mark offered to add these sights to our final tour to the Kelpies at night. We asked if he would recommend a trip to Calton Hill in the daylight to see the 360-degree view or at night to view the city lights. Without hesitation he said, "We can do both." What a treat that was! He drove us to the top of Calton Hill where we walked around and saw the magnificent views; then he drove us down to a bridge for photos of one of the most photographed spots in Dean Village, I place I would never have been able to see as it's at the bottom of a very steep hill. At the Kelpies Mark walked with us pointing out things of interest and sharing insights. Our tour ended with a return to Calton Hill to experience the magical view of Edinburgh's glorious city lights after dark. It was another sad "Goodbye" to Mark, but the perfect end to an unbelievable trip.
Prices for our Edinburgh Black Cab Tours were for a maximum of 7 and did not increase during the busy season.
All our Edinburgh Black Cab Tour guides were outstanding professionals, highly skilled, incredibly knowledgeable and most importantly, extremely safe drivers with terrific senses of humor and a real love and joy for their profession and co-workers. They joked constantly about each other and always acknowledged and waved when passing another on the road.
We never felt rushed and were offered comfort breaks often. And each guide asked us if we'd like to stop for a meal or just grab something and eat in the vehicle, which we preferred. Being allowed to eat in the vehicle was surprising as all our vehicles were immaculately clean as well as incredibly comfortable, even when sitting in the very back seats. Getting into these luxury vehicles was somewhat of a challenge for me with my mobility issues, but completely doable. Every guide arranged to park as close to the entrances as was possible for my convenience which I greatly appreciated. And if we chose to, we were always allowed to stay in the vehicle while the others were enjoying the sights.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend checking with Edinburgh Black Cab Tours for any tours or driving needs you may have in Scotland. You will not be disappointed!
