What an interesting tour located in the Newtown of Edinburgh. Docents throughout the home had so much information to share. The kitchen may have been the most fascinating room in the house. Our only difficulty was arriving there GPS is not your friend for this address, it sends you to the back door where there is no entrance.

This is the National Trust for Scotland site; members can visit it for free. The well-maintained building, with many different rooms, provides a great display of historical living conditions.

Thank you to every room guide who was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We had a super experience made all the better by their welcoming demeanour and interesting conversation. A super place to visit for anyone who loves history.

The Georgian House is a restored 18th-century home in New Town and absolutely worth a visit. So well done with lots of interesting objects from everyday life, and by far the most talkative and helpful volunteer guides we encountered on our trip! Good contextual films as well. Definitely worth seeing.

I had a fantastic visit and experience at The Georgian House on Friday, 19Jul! I am from the US and visited this beautiful and historic home in September of 2015. I returned this year to take in the Ramsay & Edinburgh Fashion exhibition. Ramsay's artwork is simply extraordinary in texture and grandeur - the subjects and the beauty of their fine clothing are prime to jump off the canvas. This was an exquisite experience. However, the true pleasure of this experience was in revisiting the history of the home offered by the exceptional docents, Joyce, and Victoria. Admittedly, I did not recall much of the former owner's history (Lamont) due to the span of time since my last visit. Joyce took me through the parlour and drawing rooms and provided insightful knowledge of the historical uses of the period pieces such as the barrel organ and refined tea set (to name just a few of many items on display). I almost felt as if I was transported back in time. After I left Joyce's company, I then went to the bedroom on the first floor and was kindly greeted by Victoria. Her lovely demeanor and detailed perspective of the room heightened my experience and tour finale. She pointed out various humorous household items within the period that I would have been none the wiser about without her input. She also assisted with input on the dining area as the docent of that room had to leave. These two ladies made my tour most enjoyable and unforgettable! I plan to return during my next annual sojourn to Edinburgh in 2024, and in hopes of exploring a new exhibit. Thank you, Joyce and Victoria! -Stacy

If you’re a history buff or if you like living history at your fingertips, this is for you.
From the get go, staff was welcoming and friendly, but once in the rooms, they will provide as much or as little information as you want. I loved having all these volunteers/staff share their knowledge in an interactive way!

Excellent experience at the Georgian House! Started with a movie that provided great historical context to the city and the house. The self guided tour winded down through many rooms with period furnishings and art. The volunteer docents made the experience rich and human. Each one was very well informed, friendly and personable.

Fascinating property tucked away by Charlotte Square in Edinburgh.
This is a wonderful house owned by the National Trust. It was very quiet when we visited on a Monday and we had a guide to ourselves in most rooms. Without exception, every talk was interesting and informative and added to the knowledge gained from the film at the start of the visit.

I am a history buff and really enjoyed touring this beautiful house. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are well furnished and there are several staff members always nearby to answer your questions. BE SURE to see the kitchen in the basement and have the staff tell you all about it!
