Definitely check out this gem of a museum. It is informative and easy to navigate without needing hours of time for a proper visit. The exhibits are interesting and varied. I had a much better understanding of Inverness/Caledonian Canal/Highlands after my time there. I even saw a Pine Marten a couple of days later and knew what it was thanks to the museum’s wildlife displays.

The exhibition about the emergence of Scotland and its history is really good.

Two floors with natural history and social reflections. Some gems amongst the fascinating exhibits including a Turner. Free entry though donations are encouraged. Helpful staff.

A fabulous, small museum and gallery. Gives a fantastic, overview of the history of Scotland’s natural formation and its wildlife. The human history is covered succinctly and is truly enjoyable. You do not come away overwhelmed, just we’ll informed. Noted that there were fantastic interactive activities for children or adults if you wish! Being able to feel the fur of badgers, pine martens and otters was a delight! Congratulations Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, you have a lovely place and very welcoming staff!

Great free museum.
Small museum but loads of well laid out displays. Starts with the geology of the Highlands, loads about the bronze and iron age people and culture, local floral and fauna as well as plenty about the more recent ( ie last 2000 Yr) history of the area.
Friendly staff,small gift shop,toilet, and cafe.
Also, a small art gallery.
Can easily pass well over an hour exploring the information on offer.

The museum isn’t that large but the exhibitions are very well setup and the staff friendly. A small cafeteria and a shop with lovely local items. Well worth a visit.

Is free but donations are welcome. You can make your donations throughout your visit.
We can leave our jackets at the entrance, practical!
Lots of things are planned for children on the ground floor: puzzles, animals to find, things to lift....French museums should take inspiration from this!
Museum covering the very beginning (with geology) until about 1960 I would say.
But in the end, I didn't learn much. Too bad...
Organization to review. The idea of frieze colors for the periods is an excellent idea, but it is not very visible during the visit.
We can leave our jackets at the entrance, practical!

Took some time to have a look at this museum in the beautiful city of Inverness. It was on my list of things to do as on previous visits I never had the time to explore. Wonderful little museum with very interesting historical artefacts.
