Before we left Australia, we booked a private day tour with Highland Chauffeur for our day trip for two couples. We were to be picked up in a van at our hotel in Inverness and taken to Urquhart Castle, Culloden, Clava Cairns, a lunch stop and possibly managing to fit in Fort George as well.
Unfortunately, the gentleman that I had been conversing with for the time before our trip was unlucky and had his van damaged in the terrible floods and storms that hit Scotland just before our trip. He contacted me to let me know and asked if we were happy for him to find us another driver for the journey, which we were.
On the morning of our daytrip, Alex came to collect us. Another misfortune befell us in that one of our party had inadvertently injured her knee the day before.
The van was large enough to make her comfortable and Alex went out of his way to drive close enough to allow her to enjoy as much of the day as possible.
Our first stop was Urquhart Castle and luckily the sun came out just as we arrived on what started as a misty, damp morning. Alex suggested that we might be able to hire a wheelchair or similar and this proved to be the case. We got a ride on from the Castle and the injured lady was able to see an awful lot of the area, except of course for anything with stairs and no ramps.
After a wonderful time at Urquhart, we headed to Culloden where we chose to do the premium tour with a guide. Again, our injured companion was able to access a wheelchair here too. The tour was very enjoyable and I definitely think the small extra expense of a guide was well worth it.
On the way to lunch, we stopped at Clava Cairns and three of us spent time wandering through the incredible stones. Our poor friend was in considerable pain by then and decided to wait in the car. She loved the famed Scottish hairy coos, so asked Alex if he could find her one to see. Alex went to lots of trouble to drive right up next to one, so that she could take photos without leaving the car.
We had lunch at Cawdor Tavern which we had pre-arranged with our original driver, who had made a reservation for us. Lunch was very enjoyable food wise but it was obvious that our companion was in some distress.
At this point we decided that she really needed medical attention so asked Alex for his advice. He felt it was best for them to go to Accident and Emergency at the Inverness Hospital, and happily agreed to drop the couple there. We decided not to go on to Fort George and suggested to Alex that he could just drop us at our hotel. He said he felt bad about us missing the rest of the tour, which we had prepaid, so suggested driving us around Inverness to see some more local areas. This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and his knowledge of the area made it very interesting.
Luckily shortly after we were returned to our hotel the other couple arrived by taxi after having some successful treatment at Inverness A & E.
I highly recommend Alex and Highland Chauffeur who helped organise our day. A private tour is a very nice way to enjoy a day, allowing us all to see the scenery without worrying about strange roads.

A comfortable car that turns up right on time with a congenial driver who knows if you prefer to sleep (with jetlag) or chat. A total feeling of safety on the road . A large part of the hassle of a flight - overseas or domestic - is taken care of. One can avoid the need for a hotel in Sydney.

Well the weather was definitely not on our side, and we even thought they might cancel our full day tour to Skye. Wind and rain warnings, flooding taking place in many parts of Scotland. 7 adults and Alex together for the day. Alex was great. We missed several parts of Skye, but despite that had a great time. We stood in the freezing rain that was coming sideways, just to see amazing waterfalls.....and seriously were laughing most of the time. We went to The View restaurant at the Cullins hotel for lunch, and enjoyed fish & chips with a beautiful view. Walking up to and around Eilean Donan Castle, we seriously thought we were going to be picked up by the wind and dropped into the lake! We managed to get great pictures despite the weather, and some great memories. Worth paying more for a private tour, that has access to more areas that a bus cannot go to, which helped on a day like this. Don't hesitate to go with Highland Chauffeur Drive.

Our driver, Alex, couldn't have been better. Wonderful spotless car, perfectly on time and perfect fit for us. We had planned a distillery visit and he added several on to fit our plans. We enjoyed a lovely meal at Mash Tun and Alex joined us and was very good company. Very enjoyable day! Hope to visit again and will definitely book with this company. Will be recommending to friends and business associates.

If you’re in need of a chauffeur in Scotland, these guys are the best. We had the pleasure of working with both Mark and Alex.
They were extremely easy to work with, always on time, knowledgeable of all the areas we wanted to go to, and went above and beyond to accommodate all of our hopes for the trip. Their vehicles are beautifully maintained and extremely comfortable.
We had the trip of our lifetime thanks to Highland Chauffeur Drive! Can’t wait to come back and book with them again soon.

Highland Chauffeur Drive single-handedly made our family vacation to Scotland one of the best. I requested quotes from 5 companies for a private driver during our Scotland trip. Highland Chauffeur Drive was the first company to respond and offered a fair price with great customer service that made us ultimately choose them for our trip. We are so happy we did!
Mark was private guide for 6 days and took us all around Scotland. He was an amazing host, but an even better person! By the end of the trip, Mark had become apart of the family.
Mark has an extensive knowledge of Scotland and we found ourselves having great discussions regarding the culture and history. He has been working in the tour industry for a while and his experience is evident. While we came into the trip with an itinerary of places/things to see, Mark was super helpful planning out the day and taking us to places we hadn’t heard of. He was also extremely accommodating to our schedules and preferences, even set us up with restaurant reservations.
Vehicle was spacious and comfortable during long rides and having Mark gave us the ability to stop anywhere for a photo opportunity, bathroom break or to grab a snack/takeaway coffee.
My family and I had a great time with Mark and I would 100% recommend Highland Chauffeur Drive to anyone looking to visit Scotland!

You’re in for a great treat if you book your tour with this family-run business. We had 7 people in our party and thus needed two cars. The father and son team of Highland Chauffeur Drive had up-scale Mercedes (one car and one van) that were very comfortable and quiet. We had a full day filled with knowledge of the highlands, plus hospitality and a sprinkle of good humor at its best.
When we first arrived, we were greeted by Mark (son) and Alex (father) Williamson with water bottles and a smile. Their instructions made it very easy to find them near the Invergordon dock where our cruise ship was anchored. We had already exchanged emails and agreed on an itinerary before our arrival, but the owners expressed an openness to making changes as much depends on the day and timing.
During the entire tour, we were positively immersed with in-depth information about each of our stops and the countryside as we passed between the stops. One of the stops was a truly fabulous visit to the Culloden Battlefield Center, where our chauffeurs encouraged us to participate in a center-guided tour that was orchestrated by a great docent. As we walked through the battlefield, the docent shared with us the color and must-hear history of this important battle which sealed the fate of the struggle between Scotland and England and the continuing impacts of the outcome on life on Scotland today.
Alex and Mike also drove us to the ancient rock sites of Clava Cairns. We also drove through various neighborhoods of Inverness. We had lunch in a Scottish whiskey distillery, a perfect place to stop and sample and buy a couple of bottles for home. (There was no scotch-whiskey tour.) We ended our day with a drive and a stop at the Bealy Firth, seaside. It provided a coastal view flanked by some of the Scotland’s hillsides and an impressive light house. We didn’t go inside the light house, but we thought the view of the firth was a perfect way to end the day.
Throughout, Mike and Alex proved themselves to be far more than safe drivers, they tried to impart their own knowledge and sense of the local history. They were not certified tour guides (which they had explicitly communicated to us) but we did see some really nice places, heard a good amount of history, and were very pleased with the service. The price quoted was a fixed amount per car and per van – fair in comparison to the prices of other driving tours to which we also reached out with an email.

Highland Chauffeur Drive was great to work with from start to finish. Mark, the owner, was very responsive to email inquiries and helped us work out a great itinerary for a day trip around the Inverness/ Highlands area. We had 6 passengers and the Mercedes van that was provided was perfect for our group. Our driver, Alex, is a lifelong resident of the area and not only knew it well, but took us along to other stops along the way that he knew we would enjoy. Would book again anytime.

Mark was our guide for 2 days going from Inverness to the Isle of Skye and onward to Fort William. He was fantastic. Mark gave wonderful insight into the Scottish history and culture. Our tour of the Isle of Skye was nothing short of amazing. He took us throughout the countryside along their backroads. We experienced all the typical tourist sights, but also many that were only known by just the locals. Mark’s touring van was extremely comfortable and very clean. Mark attended to our every need. If you ever need a guide for Inverness, the surrounding countryside and Islands hire Highland Chauffeur Drive. You won’t be disappointed.

Driving around Scotland with Mark was a dream. He was helpful, dependable, and professional. We enjoyed the itinerary and the tips and bits of history he would give us along the way. He walked with my mom on a dirt path so we could explore further to see a waterfall and helped with dinner reservations on my birthday when we couldn’t get one. I can’t say enough great things!
