“Amazing and atmospheric with great exhibits”

这家酒店并不在我的原先计划好的行程,但是因为我决定多付一次浏览器传递和30分钟的路程大概是去达拉斯的dhu酿酒厂。哇,气氛很棒的酒店,很棒的展品双子塔,但一点都不拥挤因为它有点脱离常规的旅游路径。如果你在这个地区,一定要停下来。

The Guides are excellent

Beautiful old Cathedral. The displays in the two towers are really interesting. The views from the top are impressive too. If you can't make it up the stairs there's an interactive display to let you see all around too. We are interested in the meaning of the old gravestones and spoke to one of the guides who pointed us in the direction of another guide called Raymond. She told us 'if Raymond doesn't know its not worth knowing' and she was right. He was so helpful and even gave me a book with all the signs and symbols in it! Definitely worth a visit. Good parking too

Impressive ruin

When we arrived we were greeted by a very helpful, knowledgeable lady who outlined the history of the cathedral and things to look out for, such as the tallest gravestone and where to find remnants of paintings of angles.
The ruined abbey is very impressive. Large parts of it are still intact and you can walk up the two towers via stone spiral staircases. The information boards and exhibits are well presented and interesting. Not too 'dry'.
Some of the ruins are currently covered in scaffolding, but this did not spoil our visit as most areas were still accessible.

Definitely worth a visit (with Spynie Palace)

Very photogenic, atmospheric ruined cathedral with a couple of towers still standing. Great views from the top & excellent exhibitions in the 2 ground floor sections. Particularly enjoyed stonemasons' very rude depiction of Bishop Columba Dunbar! Plenty of street parking right outside. Several information boards & a very good introductory talk from the lady on the ticket desk (Historic Environment Scotland staff seem to make this a regular practice), though a long queue built up behind us whilst she was helpfully talking to us... Some great history/legends & works well with terrific Spynie Palace nearby.

Iconic ruin that is terrific to explore

A marvellous piece of history and interestingly preserved. I especially liked how each visitor gets a personal introduction from a guide and then you are left to your own devices. That works really well. Great views from the top of the tower and the climb up the spiral staircase feels safe and secure.

Fabulous day

A wonderful visit. The staff were exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. The ladies went above and beyond to make our visit an enjoyable experience. The ruin is wonderful and majestic. The peace and serenity was brilliant. Take time to look at the fantastic artwork on the gravestones.

Great Welcome From Jim

We were welcomed at the front gate by a wonderful Glaswegian ex-serviceman by the name of Jim, who took the time to give us an extremely concise and informative overview of the cathedral’s layout and history, including key dates and religious context. The cathedral itself was interesting, with a number of rooms dedicated to masonry, and a nice view from the top. The individual pieces of stonework and masonry are well preserved and explained, and well displayed to enable guests to interact with them. The tight-wound, ancient stone spiral staircases would be difficult for people with physical disabilities or people with small children.

Beautiful site with incredible story telling.

Staff were welcoming and informative. Displays were perfectly curated - engaging and informative. Stunning views from the viewing platform. Spiral staircases not for the faint hearted but plenty of seating on each level to break it up. Beautifully maintained grave yard to wander around. Would highly recommend for a 1-1.5hr visit.

Impressive ruins and a remarkable burial ground

The staff were lovely and very well-informed, and I spent a very absorbing couple of hours wandering the ruins and the surrounding burial ground. They've gone to great effort to make the 17th and 18th century flat ledger stones in the graveyard properly visible -- these tend to moss over and disappear into the turf, and it must take a lot of time and expense to keep the stones clean and as legible as they can be. The exhbition of carved stones in the towers is also beautiful -- my balance is too poor to cope with the narrow spiral stairs with only a rope handrail, but there's plenty to see on the ground floor and a good touchscreen display, also on the ground floor, showing everything which is on display upstairs. Highly recommended.

Beautiful cathedral

Beautiful cathedral ruins.
Very enjoyable visit.
The very helpful staff member did say not really recommended for those with a fear of heights but I chose to ignore him!!!Gave my sister a great laugh seeing me suddenly loose control of my legs at top of stair climb!!
Great restoration done of what must have been a truly magnificent building.
We were luck to have Beautiful sunny day which made the visit all the more special.
Plenty of useful information available.
