Lovely beach. Not too crowded. Has facilities. The surf was easy to swim in which was rare on our trip. There was a lot of driftwood on the beach.

Not currently a good place to snorkel. The Disc golf course was hard to follow. We couldn’t find all the baskets. The last picture is of one of the boulder pools.

My husband and I were staying in Poipu but drove to the beach because we wanted safe swimming and snorkeling on a January morning. We had our own snorkel gear. This was a great place. I saw tons of fish along the rocks that serve as a barrier against the waves. There was a restroom and a shower to wash sand off of feet. There was plenty of parking in the parking lot when we were there.

Lydgate is a great beach to for snorkling, body surfing and just handing out. There is plenty of parking, bathrooms, lifeguard, large and small gathering spaces. You can sit in the grass or in the soft sand.
There are two small protected pools so littles ones can enjoy the water without waves and plenty of fish for beginning snorkelers. The un-protected side is available for surfers. We did some boogie boarding, but the surf further out was rough.
If thirsty or hungry, the Hilton Tiki Bar is a couple minute walk.

We enjoyed the sunrise. Staying in Koloa we decided to start our day early at Lydgate. Made it for the sunrise and it was beautiful!! The view from this point of the island for sunrise is a little different from Poipu/Koloa area. Wonderful beach to start the day with the Hawaiian sunrise.

Our last stop on a van tour we did, this looks like the place to be. Very nice beach, and the two little "ponds" look perfect for ocean swimming. Some of the most picturesque photos we took during the tour. There are some great trees right by the water, that frame some beautiful pictures of the ocean and the waves.

It wasn't a safe beach for us to go snorkeling or swimming at, but it had gorgeous views and the the historical significance of the haeia was cool to learn about.

This beach/park is a great place to unwind, relax, and see some fish without having to go snorkeling. The main swimming area is cordoned-off from the surf by a rock barrier so the water is smooth and easy to manage. There is a separate smaller pool for keiki (kids) so it is very family-friendly. They do have some covered areas, showers, bathrooms & lifeguards. Plenty of parking and some shady areas to just chill!

The calmest water in Kauai. We saw several nice sized schools of fish near the rocks but this is not where you go for too snorkeling. This is the place where you never have to watch the ocean for waves or worry about anyone in your party. The rocked off “ kiddie pool” is genius for little kids. Easy to find and easy to like!

What is up with the camping here? It was completely full of what looked like a trailer park, people actually living here long term, cars that have been sitting there a long time with flat tires, lots of tarps, garbage, overall really sketchy. Am I missing something here?

Can kids stand up paddleboard in the protected section of the park, or is only swimming/snorkeling allowed?

It is a protected area and I have never seen a sign that says you can't, however it would depend on the number of people in the swimming area. I have been there at times when there are literally too many people in the water to negotiate a paddle board, without running into someone.
