We made sure to purchase our tickets well in advance for the dinner and show, and added on the transportation from St Stephen’s Green to the pub. The transportation worked great with a taxi driver waiting for us at the pickup point, and he also was waiting for us afterwards to return us to central Dublin. The show is located upstairs in a large room with seating predetermined by the pub. Our table for 8 was located right at the front of the room off to one side. We had a great view of the musicians and dancers, and I think most tables also had great viewpoints. We loved the music and Irish dancing and thought the food and service was very good. The food was three courses with several choices for every course except dessert (only apple pie). All of our party really enjoyed the food but think the Irish Stew was the biggest hit. The singers thoroughly engaged the audience with fun songs, encouraging us to sing and clap along. The three female and two male dancers were fun to watch.

We truly loved our experience -- the entire evening including the transport to and from the location! Ticket purchase online was smooth and our advice is that you purchase the transportation option as it is hassle free and a value-add to the experience. The pick up location was easy to find and the driver was on time. A few stops throughout central Dublin at other hotels and we were then at the location within 30 minutes. The drive out allows you to see a bit more of the suburbs. The location itself is beautiful and charming. The dinner and entertainment evening, which we purchased, is on the top floor of the building. Long family style tables adds to the eventual merriment of the evening, especially after a few pints! We indulged in this evening on our first day in Dublin and it set the mood for our trip -- FUN! The band takes you on a journey with their ballads and banter and the dancers are the icing on the cake. I should also mention that the food is simply delicious -- but come prepared for hearty portions! All in all this is exceptional value for the money if you want a traditional and authentic experience. Highly recommend.

Cute show, a bit too touristy, stage too small for the dancers. The band was engaging but I expected a more genuine and curated evening. Considering that at the same price you could see Riverdance............

Note this is very far out of the city center. We spent 1.5 hours and €50 on a cab ride round-trip from the city center. We purchased the show only ticket which stated that it starts at 6:30 PM and therefore, arrived at 6:30PM only to learn that the show starts at 8 PM. The management at the venue was unaccommodating and said the doors open at 6:30 PM to allow for the diners to enter earlier. I feel that this is rather disingenuous and a later starting time should have been stated on the show only ticket. Of course, the venue can only benefit from this miscommunication as customers are rather beholden to stay since there are no other restaurants within walking distance. Because we felt the venue was rather drab looking, especially since it was empty when we arrived at the stated time on the ticket, we didn’t want to waste our last meal of the trip dining in such a venue so we were able to get a refund from Viator. Unfortunately, for us, this still meant that we wasted an hour and a half of our vacation time and €50 on a cab ride because of the miscommunication by the venue.

Thanks for your feedback and pointing out the error. This start time error appeared on the the Viator website and has now been corrected by us. The show starts at 8pm for show-only tickets, and suggested arrival time for "show only" is 7.30pm. Arrival time for "dinner & show" is from 6.30pm. I’m pleased to see you got a refund and apologies about the timing error. It’s a pity you didn’t get to see the show in the end. We have a shuttle service for €12pp round trip from city centre. Shuttle journey time is approximately 25-30 mins on the way out and 20 mins or less on the way back after the show.

The pub and performance were charming, authentic, and memorable. I'd definitely repeat this every time I'm in Dublin. Ah - note that while the address said Dublin, it was a bit further out, so plan travel accordingly and probably hire a car. Attendees are seated along long tables shared with others, which is a great way to meet people from around the world. The food was great, and drinks are offered on a regular cadence by the staff who come by. The show itself was parts historical music through Irish ballads and drinking songs, comedy, and a bit of exposition. The musicians get the audience clapping and singing along. Eventually, the stage opens up to the dancers for about an hour of Irish dance and tap. Then the musicians return for more performances and to wrap it up. Enjoyed it all and want to come back time and again.

Wonderful night of music and dancing. They served a lot of people an excellent meal very efficiently. The irish step dance show was wonderful. We will definitely visited again.

I have no idea whether or not the four musicians on stage were good, bad, or just indifferent because their music was amplified to a painful, ear splitting level…FOR TWO HOURS! The accompanying dinner was good, especially considering the number of people being fed. What might otherwise have been a pleasurable experience was ruined by the subsequent headache I came away with from the volume of the performance. Having recently attended several marvelous Irish music performances on Prince Edward Island in Canada where the music was only slightly amplified, I can say they were much more enjoyable!
Rule of thumb…if your music is good, there is no need to turn the Bose speakers up to the “ wake the dead” power setting!

The food was good, the music and dancers were great. We enjoyed the show but it does last about 3 hours from start to finish. The seating is banquet style seating so unless you’re in a big group you’ll be making new friends. It could have been a 5/5 star rating if the crowd were more engaged, but this crowd was several decades older than we are 😂. This would be fun to go to with a large group of friends that enjoys drinking and music.

Hi Kathryn, dinner and show is 49.50 Euro per person. Round trip shuttle from Dublin City centre is 10 Euro per person. This can be booked online on our website at the same time as booking dinner and show. If you have any other questions just let us know. Eoghan.

They picked us up at the Shelbourne. We met a friend there that lives in Dublin and road back in his taxi. He picked up the tab.
Highly recommend the Merry Ploughboy. Just the best. Go into the pub after dinner and the show.

We would be happy to help arrange a direct pick-up for your gang from the Powerscourt Hotel with one of our regular taxi drivers if the date frees up. There is one large group booked who have not finalised their numbers so it would be worthwhile waitlisting.

Hi Med9, you can purchase "tickets" online, (including shuttle transfer from your choice of city centre locations) directly from the Merrry Ploughboy Pub website. You will receive a confirmation email which you may print off yourself if you wish, but you do not need to do so. Once you make the booking we will have all your details, it's just a matter of you showing up on the night.

I am planning to bring a party of 4 to a show in June. However, we would prefer to stay at the pub for a while after the show and take a taxi back to downtown (near Trinity College) when we choose, rather than taking the shuttle. Will there be any difficulty getting a cab to the pub, and how long ahead would we need to call them?
