Interesting and very informative museum about the history of Ireland and Galway.
Some areas are dedicated to children of all ages.
An audio Guide, application or brochure in French and other languages would be helpful.

Good parking locally and easily accessible in the Spanish Arch by the Claddagh.
The staff were so helpful and the museum is free. The kids found it hugely entertaining and highly interactive. All in all, well worth the trip and time. We had a wonderful time.

I was very impressed with this museum. The displays are well organised and very informative. I liked the way that they told the story of Galway but also put it in the context of overall Irish history. I was especially impressed with the gallery that told the story of the fight for Irish independence. As an English person I realise how much I was not taught in school! Thank you for a very enjoyable and informative couple of hours. I now want to buy some good Irish history books to undertake some further study.

No charge - but this does not demean the value of the museum. You’ll get a full history of Ireland with some amazing displays and objects. It’s so comprehensive, I would suggest doing it over at least two sessions.

Fantastic visit. Very child friendly also. A suggested donation is small for a great experience. Pity we didn't leave enough time for the top of the building where oceans exhibit was located. Highly recommend visiting.

We enjoyed our visit to Galway City Museum. There are lots of information boards to give an overview of the current exhibitions or to accompany the artefacts on display.
We were also able to attend a talk by a local historian while we were there. It's on different levels and a local Galway Hooker fishing boat dominates one area. 'Keepers of the Gael' was an intriguing exhibition about Celtic history and culture. A small museum which uses its space well. The museum is close to the Spanish Arch and beside the Tourist Information Office.

I didn't have enough time to do a complete and careful tour of the museum (the closing time was 30 minutes earlier that day). But the exhibitions on the city's archeology and history help to understand Galway's old quarters. That's how I understood that we were walking in the streets and in front of 17th century houses, even if we didn't recognize them!

This museum is not huge, but provides ample information to those wanting to glean information on Galway. There is a very cool science/medicine section that sheds light on Ireland's contributions to science and medicine.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. Count on spending about an hour or two here.

We just wandered upon this strolling around Spanish Arch. What a great museum! It had a great flow and was so detailed & informative. Can’t believe it’s free! Definitely worth a stop for a couple of hours.
