Visited for the Halloween Trial which was fun. No set route though so was a bit random if you found all the clues. Storytelling on the lawn in front of the house was a fun addition. Gardens are immaculate and the house itself was very interesting. We sped through as we had young children who didn’t really appreciate it, could have spent lots longer in there.
Staff in the Tea shop/cafe were grumpy. Have you little thimbles of long life Lakeland milk (like you get in a Travelodge) with a cup of tea. 2 of them with two teas. When I asked for more she gave me two more. Wouldn’t give me fresh milk despite them using it. I could have had about 10 of them in my cup alone!! Bet they use fresh if they have a cuppa. English Heritage site and can’t serve fresh milk with a cuppa?? Poor show. My advice have a cappuccino!!
Shop at the end is ok, not huge but sufficient snd good stock of alcohol!
Free parking is a bonus.

We visited Brodsworth during October half term, the kids Halloween hunt was enjoyable & meant we saw lots of the lovely gardens.
We also visited with my elderly father who has mobility issues, staff helped us obtain a wheelchair & use the lift within the hall.
All the staff we encountered at the entrance & within the hall were so friendly & accommodating - thank you!
Lovely day out - will be back at Christmas!

We visited on a sunny weekend in October and spent a very enjoyable morning exploring the gardens and then looking around inside the hall. We spent 3-4 hours here and entry was free with our English Heritage membership. Parking is also free.

The fern dell grotto is obviously a highlight of the gardens, although the small formal gardens are lovely too and still with lots of beautiful flowers in early October. There were even a few very late roses still left in the rose garden, which must be beautiful at its peak in late June.

I couldn't stop taking photos of the fern grove though! as so picturesque. I loved the winding walks through the ornamental landscape. So many little nooks and crannies to explore too. There is even a small pet cemetery in the grounds. We carried a small picnic with us and enjoyed eating lunch at one of the picnic tables near to the shooting hut.

There is a large lawn near to the house where a (professional?) game of croquet was taking place.

I prefer spending time in gardens rather than old halls, but actually the hall was really interesting to look around. The volunteers in the house were all very friendly and helpful, happy to have a chat about the interesting things to see. Only the ground floor was open but we must of spent around 30-45 minutes inside the hall.

Currently the focus is on Brodsworth’s connection to the transatlantic slave trade, rather than shy away or deny its past, the aim is to acknowledge and educate. It is a shame the huge mahogany table is now covered up, but we were told that is due to the hardship endured to forest the mahogany wood.

Summary, we all really enjoyed our visit to Brodsworth - especially exploring the beautiful gardens. Highly recommend a visit.

Really enjoyed our visit, loved the gardens, especially how empty plinths had been utilised with sculptures from the exhibition in the house. The in house exhibition was superb, the volunteers in the house friendly and helpful. Will visit again

A perfect day out for 3 generations! Simply stunning gardens, full of mystery and inspiration. The Wizards of Once trail absolutely thrilled our grandchildren and kept them interested and excited for the duration. The Witchfinder drama on the lawn was a massive bonus, so professional and fascinating, the performers held all ages in their grip!
I'd recommend this as one of the best days out you'll have this half term holiday.

An amazing place. This was my first visit, and it exceeded my expectations. I love that everything in the house was left as it was when the last resident left. You can imagine a Victorian family living there as you walk around. There is a lot to see also, so leave plenty of time. The gardens are also beautiful. I especially liked the kitchens. The slavery exhibition is also very interesting. I highly recommend a visit.

Unfortunately due to a lack of room volunteers only the ground floor was open. It is a really interesting house which has been preserved rather than 'tarted up' which adds to the interest. The room volunteers are knowledgeable and happy to answer questions.
Since our last visit several years ago the gardens have undergone a makeover and are now outstanding. The formal beds are immaculate and the fernery and target house area are really good - well done to the Gardeners.
We had lunch in the cafe and the food was fine but we were disappointed to see that everything was provided in disposable containers which are not recycled.

Really enjoyable stop here for 3 hours on way home. The house itself is relatively modern and although it has an interesting history it is reasonably ordinary inside. The star for me was the fabulous gardens, full of hidden surprises and wonderful vistas

A very pleasant place to pass a few hours. House was interesting but limited due to covid but the gardens were beautiful. Spent about 3 hours there but could have wondered around the estate for many more hours. 10/10 to the gardening team for a beautiful display.

An interesting house to visit. I especially enjoyed learning all about the family (but my husband was not impressed to learn that the family's money in part came from slave trading) The staff/volunteers were mainly friendly and helpful and the buggy drivers very helpful.
