Paris's last arrondissement is only interested in tourists for two reasons: the Père Lachaise cemetery and cheap hotels. Annexed to Paris, like all the outer districts in 1860, the 20th arrondissement was a place of settlement for proletarians and immigrants. It remains so to a large extent, and in the income rankings of residents it almost matches the county number. And according to statistics from a quarter of a century ago, a quarter of the county's population was not born in France. I think that share has only increased now. So choosing a cheap hotel on Booking is highly likely to be here. I've done it twice. He lived in the Belleville district of China and most recently at the D'Artagnan Hotel. The county has a reputation for insecurity, but I haven't come across anything criminal... The second motive is the famous cemetery of Père Lachaise. For the French, the cemetery is often just a place to walk, so for them it is just a big park with familiar names. In the cemetery lie those who made up the colour of France in the 19th and 20th centuries: writers Honoré de Balzac, Henri Barbus, Alphonse Daudet, Marcel Proust, poet Paul Éluard, composer Georges Bizet, musician Michel Legrand, singers Yves Montand and Edith Piaf, sociologists Auguste Conte, Pierre Bourdieu, historians Michlet and Brodel, philosopher Lyotard, inventor of the tourbillon Abraham Breguet, directors Alain Corneau, Claude Chabrol, painters Honoré Daumier, Jacques-Louis David, Engrès, Modigliani, Eugène Delacroix, Théodore Gericot, Napoleonic marshals Ney, Davou, Pears, Kellerman, Mortier, famous Baron Hausman, builder of the Suez and Panama Canals Ferdinand Lesseps. The graves of composer Chopin, musician Jim Morrison and writer Oscar Wilde are important to foreigners. The cemetery is of particular importance to people on the political left. Buried here are the author of one of the first utopias Henri de Saint-Simon, the daughter of Marx Laura with her husband Lafargue, the anarchist Néstor Makhno, and the Kurdish communist director Yilmaz Güney. But the most symbolic is the wall of communes, where 173 communes were shot during the Versailles crackdown on the Paris Commune. The cemetery above the rest of Paris was one of the last strongholds of the Commune. By the way, the executioner of the Commune of Thiers is also buried in Per Lachaise.

It is a Guest house, located in the east end of the city. Even so, going to the Pere Lachaise cemetery will enjoy the infrastructure of the neighborhood, as I went to a Portuguese bar next to the Philipe Auguste subway station, or even the oldest Youth hostel in the city, which works there.

We once rented an apartment here and found the neighborhood pleasant and calm. But beware, you will be far away from the sites and attractions, and the Metro ride can be long. Lots of very pleasant residential districts including a few with cute independent houses with gardens. Lots of good food and coffee.

I think people need to realize that the 20th arrondissement is a largely suburban working class area. The farther out you get from the center of Paris and the main touristy sites, the more residential it becomes. People need to realize that while your out and about as tourists, everyone else is working, studying, raising families & etc. Do not stay in places like the 20th arrondissement if you’re looking for the typical “tourist in France” experience.
But, if you don’t mind the more residential feel, the 20th arrondissement has fantastic views of the Eiffel Tower and the city skyline on a clear day, is far more affordable then other areas, and there’s a wide range of diverse food options such as Tamil, Chinese, Thai, Algerian, Mexican, Ethiopian & etc.

I really recommend this area. I prefer village style areas, and the 20th doesn't disappoint. I followed a few recommended walks I'd read or seen on YouTube.

Worth a visit. Pere Lachaise Cemetery is here and I recommend Place Gambetta as a genuine crossroads of Paris where real people live and shop. Lots of cute neighborhoods around it. In some places in this area you get great views of the city.

En vacances à Paris, nous aimons flâner dans les quartiers pour les découvrir. Que dire du 20ème : Sale (pour ne pas dire degueulasse), des poubelles et des crottes partout (au lieu d avoir le nez en l air pour regarder le "paysage", il faut l avoir au pied et se boucher le nez,) des rues dégradées....bref, nous n avons trouvé aucun point positif dans ce secteur !

Découvertes aujourd’hui de la Cité Leroy et de la Villa de l’Ermitage en passant devant le numéro 315 de la rue des Pyrénées.
Cité Leroy : environ 60 m de long , avec ses petites maisons hétéroclites, ses pavillons ateliers et jardinets .
Villa de l’Ermitage : attenante, qui faisait partie de l’ancien bourg de Belleville. Là aussi , habitations légères vu la fragilité des sols ,pas plus de 3 m de H.
Impasse préservées , pépites d’une autre époque !!!
Belle façon de découvrir des lieux méconnus dans Paris

Le 20eme à fuir, sous des airs de cartier bobo il en est rien au niveau de la sécurité, police peu presente malgré la délinquance et cambriolage qui augmentent.

Le 20ème arrondissement, un secteur de l'Est parisien en bordure du boulevard périphérique qui s'étend de la Porte des Lilas à la Porte de Saint Mandé. Un des lieux touristiques les plus fréquentés est le Cimetière du Père Lachaise avec les tombes d'Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Molière, de La Fontaine, Chopin, Jim Morisson, Georges Bizet, Jacques Higelin, Sarah Bernhardt et bien d'autres personnalités.. Ses églises telles que Notre Dame de Lourdes, Notre Dame de la Croix de Ménilmontant, Notre Dame des Otages, Saint Gabriel, Saint Jean de Bosco... Ses parcs, squares et jardins tels que le Parc de Belleville, les squares Samuel Champlain, Sarah Bernhardt et Réjane, le jardin Carré de Baudouin... et pour les amateurs de street art, différents artistes y ont réalisé de belles oeuvres dont certaines sont remplacées avec le temps. En pièces jointes, les emplacements sont indiqués en légende. Un arrondissement que vous pourrez agréablement visiter.
