Course quite sheltered, you have to go up, ideal out of strong heat. Once arrived magnificent monument, it is still necessary to climb inside 135 steps, for those who are dizzy I advise against because the first part of the stairs is with a guard rail overlooking the void.

An ascent that deserves its efforts..from the top we dominate the whole city of Nimes..the last tower still built out of the 80 built by the Romans

Magne tour and its history. Interesting and "sporty" with its 120 steps.

Good morning. You like to ride in your tours / holidays. Then it's THE rise of Nimes. You will have everything that goes with height: coming to the opening , effort , sight and memories. Fans of Doctor Who will understand when going home.......

The Magne Tower, perched on Mont Cavalier, is an imposing vestige of the Roman enclosure of Nîmes, dating from the 1st century BCE. Originally built as part of the city fortifications, it served as an observation post thanks to its height and strategic position.
My visit began with a walk through the Jardins de la Fontaine, a green space laid out in the 18th century, which leads to the tower. Climbing the Magne Tower offered me a panoramic view of Nîmes and its surroundings, transporting me to the time when Nemausus was a flourishing colony of the Roman Empire.
This historic monument is a living testimony to the past greatness of Nîmes, and each stone seems to murmur the accounts of ancient times.

Tour Magne is a wonderful place to visit, particularly for any intrepid traveller interested in history. The tower has a great panoramic view of Nîmes from its balcony once you have ascended the interior staircase.
I’d suggest buying the combination ticket, that also includes the Amphitheater of Nîmes and the Maison Carrée as it’s great value and a useful way of site seeing Nîmes.
While walking to the Tour Magne I’d suggest walking through the Jardin de la Fontaine, which is a beautiful public park situated in the heart of Nîmes.
I’d suggest buying the combination ticket, that also includes the Amphitheater of Nîmes and the Maison Carrée as it’s great value and a useful way of site seeing Nîmes.
While walking to the Tour Magne I’d suggest walking through the Jardin de la Fontaine, which is a beautiful public park situated in the heart of Nîmes.

I took a nice if slow walk up a hill on a pleasantly sunny day to get to the Tour. From the direction I came from, the trees hid it well and I was suspicious about how good a watch tower it could have been. I didn’t agree with the « gentle hill » description of the route on my apple map, but as I am shaped like an apple, it may say more about my fitness than anything else.
When I reached the top of the hill, I finally saw what was left of the tower and went in.
I seem to have developed vertigo in my old (barely middle) age. I got extremely spooked going round the central column and turned back halfway up. It could also have been faintness from hunger (see the review about my hotel’s breakfast options), but I think it was the way you looked down a long way to the ground - the French adults were all muttering words like « p*tain » as they descended and the children were crying out « cochemar ».
I imagine the views from the top are lovely. But it wasn’t for me.
The exhibition at the bottom tells you all about Nostradamus’s prediction and the mentally unstable gardener who dug the tower out so much it became unstable and had to be propped up. I wasn’t remotely surprised. I was more surprised it was still standing.

Accessible via uphill walk from the fountains and gardens, this ancient tower is one of the few remaining vestiges of the town's original walls and fortifications. You can purchase a ticket here, or consider the Pass Romanite which gives you access to the big three Roman sites in Nimes and the Roman museum. Entry is timed and capped as no more than 15 people can ascend and be in the tower at a time. Not for those with knee issues as there's no lift and you can't take a stroller up the stairs. Gets steep at the end and so kids should stay close to parents or not go. The view at the top is great on a clear day, but the line of vision is limited to about 180 degrees or so as the viewpoint is small and covered. Placard display helps show what you can see on the horizon.

We arrived first and went up for about 15 minutes.
The view of Nimes is magnificent but that is the only interest of this visit.
Don't wait 1 hour in line for 10 minutes at the top....

At the very end of the Parc de la Fontaine, this tower is one of the three monuments of the Pass with the Maison Carrée and the Arènes.
Interesting vestige which gives an idea of the scale of the Roman ramparts.

Je souhaiterais connaître le tarif de la tour magne par adulte et tarif réduit s'il vous plaît? les places sont vendus uniquement à l'entrée? car sur internet je n'ai pu voir que le tarif des 3 visites arènes, tour de magne et maison carré.

Vous avez aussi le pass qui vous permet de visiter les 3 monuments majeurs de Nîmes : 13 € plein tarif et 11€ tarif réduit valable 3 jours.

You could buy the Nîmes Pass which gives you access to the main roman sites of Nîmes : the roman amphitheater (audioguide in English included), the Maison Carrée (roman temple where an history film about the birth of Nîmes is showed every 30 minutes) and the Tour Magne (roman tower with a panoramic view over the city). You can buy this ticket at the entrance of each site. This ticket is 11,70€ for adults and 9,50€ for children aged from 7 to 17 years old, and is valid for 3 days. Best regards,

Le Pass Nîmes romaine permet de visiter les 3 monuments romains emblématique de la ville de Nîmes : les Arènes (audioguide gratuit inclus), la Tour Magne et de tout connaître sur l'histoire de la création de Nîmes en visionnant le film historique "Nemausus la naissance de Nîmes" dans la Maison Carrée.
Ce pass, valable 3 jours, est à 11,70€ par adulte et 9,50€ par enfant (de 7 à 17 ans). L' offre famille s'applique pour l'achat de ce pass : l'entrée est gratuite pour le 2e enfant âgé de 7 à 17 ans (avec 2 adultes et 1 enfant payant).
