Cette broderie est absolument superbe. On peine à imaginer quelle ait traversé les siècles en restant aussi bien entretenue. Oserais je dire que c'est une vraie BD de l'an 1000?
La visite est grandement facilité par un audio guide très bien fait et très explicatif. Certes on pourrait rester plus longtemps devant chaque tableau, mais compte tenu du nombre de visiteurs, on peut bien voir sans avoir un goulot d'étranglement.
Visiter en octobre est sans doute un luxe puisque nous n'avons eu aucune queue pour visiter.

Really interesting visit, really nice to see the tapestry and recommend having a look around the rest of exhibits in the museum. There is also a 15 minute film to watch in French and English which explains a lot about the tapestry that the audio guide doesn’t go through.
The ticket included the audio guide, but the audio guide starts automatically and was not in sync with the sections you’re looking at on the tapestry. It may work well if you’re the only ones viewing the tapestry, but we were behind a few groups and the audio guide was ahead of what we were viewing.

The conquest of Britain is told on a linen cloth embroidered over 70m long. The audio guide describes the scenery so excitingly, in detail and passionately that we ended up going back and watching it all again.

Visited with friends as in Bayeaux for the cemetery. We got audios & thought it was awful. The commentary needs work as descriptions we not suitable or thought about.

This is a unique experience t9 connect to the people of this time.There is a lot ofcdetail.i asked if I could walk around again..I didn't want to lose focus..there is a good museum and lots of info on life andvtimes

Quite a graphic artists impression in places , so some quite amazing detail. Amazing it is still in one piece too given its history. Worth the trip

I’m trying to be realistic here, and I’m a huge history buff, maybe I’m overly critical - but this was just a tiny bit underwhelming for me. Definitely go here if you have time - but don’t kill yourself if you can’t fit it in. There is SO much to see in Normandy and I’m not altogether certain that this would be on my ‘must see’ list if I was time crunched.

The Bayeux museum was a great experience. The carpet itself exceeded all expectations. That was fantastic. Remember that you can use the ticket again on the day. So finally take a walk in the morning and one in the afternoon.

It was worth the visit, but as a solo traveler who walked from the rail station then to have to queue for 3 hours! Yes 3 hours. You can’t buy tickets in advance the reason, it’s being ruined by Cruise ships.
Viking cruises turn up in coaches and they take priority over the day visitors. So if you want to see and avoid the que book a cruise.
Luckily I had a 4 hour stop over in Bayeux on my rail ticket!

We found ourselves in Bayeux with a few hours to wait for our accommodation decided to go to the Tapestry museum today rather than tomorrow. Bonus, it was free today. Got our audio guide and joined the line. Excellent explanation of the tapestry as it explained the battle of Hastings and the Norman conquest. Then onto the displays of armour etc and the ridiculously detailed models on show. What a wonderful two hours.

Is there a bag-check at the museum? I will be travelling in France with a fairly large backpack most of the time. Are backpacks allowed? If not, is there somewhere safe like the train station to store it while I visit the museum?

I dont recall about storage; however, a couple members in our party had bags. This museum is really a walk-around room with the tapestry in the center. Our folks wore their backpacks while walking with no issue. They were smaller packs which yours may be much larger.

When we visited the line was fairly short—maybe 10 people. But if there’s a tour group there it could get backed up. The museum and the tapestry exhibit are not very large.

To buy tix probably quick. However queueing for the headset and then viewing may take an hour to an hour and a half or more if busy. The audio guide talks through the various scenes on the tapestry and really is needed to understand it. Therefore the pace is slow as people listen to commentary at each piece of the tapestry. If there are lots of people you will be in a long shuffling queue waiting to get into it and then slowly going round. Worth it if you are into history though.
