Unfortunately in the rain and thanks to traffic jams just before closing the museum arrived there.
Very nice large courtyard. In the sun, the old trees provide a lot of shade. Restaurants are well located there to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city. The carvings are worth seeing.

It was a cemetery built between 1526 and 1533 when a plague epidemic decimated the population. Today the beautiful courtyard hosts events while in the half-timbered houses that enclose it the School of Fine Arts is located.

In the old district, a hidden gem full of history, perfectly maintained architecture, as an old cemetery, wooden sculptures of dead bodies, very gothic. Nowadays, beautiful with terraces and places to sit, think, read, or have dinner ...

An almost hidden place sheltered from the tourist frenzy where one whispers under the greenery of large motionless trees in the middle of a square lined with wooden half-houses carved with mortuary symbols, without feeling any sense of sadness but rather of calm and serenity. In one of them, a gallery of handicrafts pottery or ceramics called with panache the fire arts gallery.

Crossing the beautiful Via Martainville characterized by half-timbered houses, our Virgin Guide took us to see the St. Maclou area entering from the arched porch and arriving at the courtyard. It was an ancient medieval cemetery transformed into an ossuary of plague victims. Over time it has been transformed into a school of fine arts and is currently used for events. Note the decorations of the skulls that recall the old use.

The moment of Saint Maclou is near the church and looks like an inner courtyard. No bones or skulls are visible so it is not particularly macabre. Inside there is a bar and clubs for artistic use. When I went there was an exhibition of contemporary ceramic crafts.

We had a guide who took us here, and without her, I am not sure if we had found it. The place is a hidden gem with a nice relaxing atmosphere.

You really have to know how to get there. It's used by an art school, as well as some new little cafés.
If you look carefully at the architecture, the wood is carved with skulls on it.

When you enter the large, peaceful courtyard of this house it’s hard to associate the present day ambience with the house’s history as a charnel house for the storage of victims of the plague.
The various carvings of skulls and other macabre symbols are there to remind us I suppose but in reality I suspect that most people come here for a pleasant visit rather than to explore history.
It’s a lovely place.
