We visited the papal city of Avignon on December 13th. This church, located just above the papal palace, is very beautiful, of course it is a historical church, it is from the Middle Ages, it is a part of the palace, it has beautiful embroideries, and the inside is very beautiful.

Unfortunately our stop in Avignon was short and we were sadly unable to visit it because it was already closed.
This Basilica, built between the 14th and 16th centuries, is an important example of Provençal Gothic style.

A magical place in the heart of Avignon,

Beautiful church in beautiful Avignon. You can walk in here freely to view the building or light a candle. During our visit there was a strict priest who confronted people who talked loudly.

As the many other religious buildings in Avignon this church is absolutely impressive from the outside. It’s meant to make you feel humble and unworthy.
But inside it’s a mess, sorry to say. Naïve paintings, funny icons, odd stuff - it’s almost like a religious flea market, Bad taste isn’t a new phenomenon, it seems.
Thank you for not imposing an entrance fee on us!

Questa chiesa, le cui origini sembra risalgano al VII sec., è veramente molto bella.
Ricostruita più volte, la chiesa attuale risale in gran parte al 1500, ad esempio la facciata.
Il campanile è di poco anteriole, risale al 1495.
L'esterno è molto ricco di decorazioni e di fregi, l'interno è molto sontuoso, spicca il bellissimo coro dorato, ma si possono ammirare anche altre pregevoli opere.
La chiesa è vicina al palazzo dei papi, pertanto consiglio di farci un salto per visitarla.
Ricostruita più volte, la chiesa attuale risale in gran parte al 1500, ad esempio la facciata.
