Ямской тракт, почтовая дорога - вольный перевод названия Chemin Des Diligences. Дорога, точнее, этот ее участок, ведет из Валорсина в Аржантьер. В дальнейшем участки дороги встречаются и в других частях долины вдоль реки Л'Арв (Лез Уш- Водань, например) в направлении выхода из долины в Сервозе. Маршрут можно начать в Аржантьере в направлении перевала Коль де Монте (Col des Montets). На перевале есть офис заповедника с небольшим музеем. Дальше тропа идет в небольшую деревушку Ле Буэ, и из нее - в Валорсин. Дорога живописная, через пастбища, вдоль рек и ручьев, через водораздел.Высоты от 1200 до 1400 м, идти не сложно. Из Валорсина ( в переводе - Долина медведей) в Шамони вернуться можно поездом.

In the Chamonix area, the so-called "Chemin des diligences" (ie, road of stagecoaches) trail runs from Montroc's hamlet to the commune of Vallorcine (almost on the border with Switzerland) trespassing the low "Col des Montets" pass. The officially scheduled time for the entire route is 2.30 hrs, but it's easy to spent more time if you walk slowly or you stop on the way.
In fact we took two hours just to cover the stretch going from the Col des Montets to Vallorcine, all downhill.
It was a beautiful, midsummer sunny day, even if you don't feel very much the heat between 1200 and 1400 mts. We arrived to the Col des Montets by the # 21 bus (summer only), which connects the Argentière station (in connection with some trains from the lower Chamonix valley) and the pass; here we visited the chalet of the Aiguilles Rouges nature reserve (there is also a botanical garden outside the chalet, but we didn't stop).
The pass has a stiff appearance, being surrounded by wild mountain slopes, strewn with boulders: it isn't hard to believe that here in the past the road was often obstructed by avalanches, leaving Vallorcine (= "valley of bears") in the middle of nowhere.
Then we started the journey towards Vallorcine. After a short stretch on a paved road, you turn right onto a grassy, relatively wide and plain path, so it actually suggests the possible passage of the stagecoaches in the past. The landscape here becomes more "domestic", with pastures and lower even with fields; although the huge Aiguille de Mesure's summit (2812 mts) looms from the south all the way behind the walker.
After having touched the "Notre Dame des sept douleurs" chapel, the route reaches Le Buet, hamlet already in the Vallorcine area (and also served by the railway station) to end in this last town after a nice stretch through the now rather wide (but always quite lonely) valley bottom.
Overall this is an easy, scenic and pleasant mid-mountain trail, which we highly recommend to anyone. Using trains and buses it is walkable both in its entire lenght, and - as we did - in single stretches.
