* Statue commemorating the two first explorers to ascend and conquer Mount Blanc
* It is located in the center of the town, between the main train station and the visitor center
* It is a landmark meeting place
CONS
* The sculpting is unspectacular
* The color is drab green
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because I knew that it was there and I knew that I would walk past it in going from the train station to the Visitors Center.
It was OK; I took "helpful" 👍 photos 📷 of other congregants.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It is free
WOULD “I VISIT THIS PLACE” AGAIN
Only if I’m walking from one place to another and it is there

This statue seems to represent climbers. They are pointing at the mountain. It’s well done and in a great spot. Worth a look.

Monument très bien mis en valeur. En ce qui concerne la sculpture, bien aimé les détails comme la lunette de vue, les plis de la veste ou le lacet

A Chamonix (74), place Saussure, à côté de La Poste, se trouve cet ensemble sculpté en bronze représentant Saussure et Balmat, les vainqueurs de l'ascension du Mont Blanc. C'est en 1887 que cette oeuvre a été réalisée par le sculpteur Salmson. Pourtant d'une belle taille, très peu de touristes la remarquent... Nous l'avions découverte lors de notre précédent passage l'été dernier. Une belle oeuvre.

Cette statue de bronze représente Jacques Balmat, le premier à avoir gravi le Mont Blanc et le naturaliste physicien genevois Horace-Bénédict de Saussure. Ce dernier
avait offert une récompense à qui atteindrait le premier le sommet du mont Blanc. C'est Jacques Balmat qui y parvint en 1786 en compagnie du docteur Michel Paccard. Cette statue représente ce fait, mais aussi l'ascension l'année suivante du Mont Blanc par ces deux hommes devenus pionniers de l'alpinisme.

A Chamonix (74), place Saussure, vous découvrirez cette belle sculpture en bronze représentant les deux vainqueurs de l'ascension du Mont Blanc, Saussure et Balmat. Créée en 1887, cette oeuvre est due à la Fonderie Siot et au sculpteur Salmson. Une belle sculpture.
