We loved this museum - so informative and interesting! The members of staff were brilliant. The displays are interactive and there is a gorgeous garden in the middle. Even better - it’s free to enter! Would recommend this for anyone who wants a relaxing few hours.

Even the walk along Montée de Chalemont was great, leading to an exceptional building and museum. An arch at the entrance way, all in stone, is marvellous, evocative and historic.
Housed in the former convent of Sainte-Marie d'en-Haut that originates in the 17th century, it is a wonderful setting for the displays.
Interesting to follow the historical timeline that is well documented. An exquisite chapel is a treasure, ornate throughout.
An Egyptian exhibition was underway with engaging artefacts reflecting that exceptional civilisation and culture.
Tranquil gardens are gorgeous. Deck chairs are laid out for anyone wishing to relax and be imbued with the ambiance. A further remarkable feature here is the serpentine and almost sculptural formations and orientations of the trees.

You have to take a staircase that starts from the riverside, once you arrive you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city, when I visited there was a temporary exhibition on Egyptomania. I do not recommend it to those with children and the elderly unless you arrive by car. Free.

Entrée gratuite. Présence de casiers (jeton non fourni) pour les sacs et d'un distributeur (payant) à café et boissons (à déguster dans l'ancien jardin du cloitre). Le musée est installé dans l'ancien couvent de la Visitation de Sainte-Marie-d 'En-Haut (XVIIe s) qui domine la rive droite de l'Isère. Il a été fondé en 1619 par François de Sales (1567-1622) sur la colline du Rabot. Occupé par les Visitandines, le monastère devient prison sous la Révolution avant d'être occupé en 1804 par les Sœurs du Sacré Coeur jusqu'en 1851 auxquelles succèdent les Ursulines jusqu'en 1905 où l'armée s'y installe. En 1920, on y loge des Italiens puis l'école d'architecture avant le transfert du musée Dauphinois. La chapelle (XVIIe s) est un bel exemple d'art baroque (retable, peinture en trompe l'œil). Passionnante exposition "Quand Grenoble gantait le monde" : la ganterie en peau de chevreau était la 1ère activité de la ville jusqu'au milieu du XIXe s. Une vidéo, "La main du gantier" (1995) explique la fabrication d'un gant. Une autre vidéo montre des extraits de films où les gens portent des gants ("Edmond", "My fair lady", "Coco avant Chanel", "Sissi impératrice", "Sissi face à son destin"). Une autre exposition "Gens de l'Alpe" montre des meubles alpins, des cannes, des cloches, des coffins (étui à pierre à aiguiser la faux), des colliers de chiens, des cabanes mobiles (pour bergers) et des maquettes de fermes.

Das Musée Dauphinois ist ein Museum in der Innenstadt von Grenoble, welches ethnografische & historische Artefakte, Volkskunst, Kunsthandwerk, Möbel sowie eine Ausstellung zum Skifahren in einem altem Kloster zeigt. Der Eintritt ist kostenlos, geöffnet ist täglich außer am Dienstag von 10:00 bis 18:00 bzw. am Wochenende von 10:00 bis 19:00.

La collection permanente nous fait comprendre le mode de vie des « gens de l’alpe », dans des conditions rudes, avec une nécessaire solidarité collective et une interdépendance avec les animaux d’élevage. Au delà des objets montrés, c’est le mode de vie et la culture qui sont présentes ici.
Les expositions (Amazonie et vélo) sont très bien faites, didactique, avec beaucoup d’objet montrés.
Dans le cloître, quelle surprise de voir cette œuvre d’art en construction, ce monstre inconnu occupant cet espace!!!
Et le site mérite aussi la visite pour la vue qu’il offre sur Grenoble.
Les expositions (Amazonie et vélo) sont très bien faites, didactique, avec beaucoup d’objet montrés.

Dans un ancien couvent, on peut visiter le cloître, la chapelle vraiment très beaux. Dans le bâtiment conventuel se trouvent les expositions, on apprend beaucoup sur la vie des savoyards d'autrefois. J'ai beaucoup aimé l'exposition sur l'histoire du ski, et j'ai admiré la ténacité de nos ancêtres pour skier sur de telles planches ! Et je ne parle pas des fixations !

Un musée sans prétention et pourtant très agréable et très intéressant. Les expositions sont très bien mises en scène. Le bâtiment est superbe et pour ne rien gâter, c’est gratuit 👍

The website of this museum doesn't seem to have a language option (English). Are each exhibit in the museum acocmpanied by explanations in English? Or do they offer an audio guide in English?
