Well worth a visit on a clear day. Perfect for hikers or just up and down again. Cafe at the top a bit expensive but looked comfortable

Do this first and see Baden Baden nestled in the forest. When you get to baden baden this is a great trip for a morning. We walked up to the station, took 35 mins from the centre. You need cash to pay for the railway. A short stroll around looking at the views and a coffee and lovely cake (bigger slices than the uk) and delicious ( they take visa). We even say a paraglider take off and descend into the valley.

A very nice ride on the little train.
Once you get to the top, you have the opportunity to eat and drink something. A small footpath leads to a beautiful meadow with loungers. Here you can relax and enjoy the view. You can climb the tower on foot or by elevator. From up there you have a great panoramic view.

We went up to Merkur by cable car.
Here you can admire a beautiful view and relax. And of course you can go up to the Merkur Tower for free. There you can see the surroundings in 360 degrees.

Great discovery! The funicular ride is remarkable. Magnificent view from the tower! the site is designed for families, picnic area and playground. A small restaurant offers small regional dishes. I recommend this place.

If you do 1 thing in Baden Baden, do this. Apart from the views from the top, the ride up itself if pretty special - especially if, like us, you saw a naked man sitting solo in the carriage coming downhill! He looked like Rasputin in case you stumble across him yourself.

A nice change with a great view. The price is absolutely OK too. You can also just take the ride up the mountain and walk down.

One day in Baden Baden was fantasy! Went by funicular railway to Merkur mountain and the view was like in a Fairy tale

Did you go there using public transport? If so, do you know what's the quickest way to get to Merkur Mountain from Baden Baden Train Station? I read some threads here about using the bus to the town and catch another bus to the Funicular Station but these info was a bit outdated. We intend to just spend maximum of three hours from the train station to the mountain and back. Many thanks

Hi
We took a direct bus from the train station to Merkurwald. It runs once every hour if I remember correctly. We spent 20-25 mins waiting for the direct bus instead of taking one to the city centre. On the way back, we got down at the city centre. 3 hrs might be a bit tight in my opinion as waiting for the bus takes a bit of time and the ride takes even longer.

1. Would like to go on the funicular train up to the top. Will be driving a car from Baden-Baden airport. Is there a parking area before boarding the Funicular , and how far do you need to walk? Would like to know more on the walking required as will be having small children.

1. Yes, there is plenty of parking at the entrance. The funicular is easily accessible from the parking lot with small kids and carriages.
2. There's an automated machine - bring small denominations of cash to purchase tickets. You can also selected the language to purchase the tickets. You may be lucky and have an attendant nearby to help you.
3. Google MerkurBergbahn hours opening times and ticket info.
