Having hiked Partnachtklamm before we were excited to bring our friends along. There are now gates at either end of the gorge for admission and not very good signage. While you need to pay an entrance fee, the crowds are not controlled, and with younger selfie-seeking people along the path, it is difficult to get by and enjoy the beauty for what it is. In talking to some of the workers, you need to come very, very early in the day, preferably on a Monday or Tuesday.
Even crowded, it was still beautiful, but nowhere near as tranquil as it was the first time we were there about eight years ago.

There is a nice walk from the ski station up to the entrance of the canyon. We bought a ticket to the one way (one can get a return). It was an impressive trip through the canyon, where you were constantly welcomed by spectacular sights. We took a lot of pictures. The walk through the canyon takes about 30 minutes depending on how many pictures you want to take and the number of guests. The day we were there, there were a lot of guests.
When we got out, it was a little difficult to figure out which way to go to baking. We chose to go in the direction of “Vorder Gradeck” a road that went quite a bit up first and above a steel bridge. It was a very beautiful trip and there was a refreshment stop about halfway.

We parked at the parking lot by the Olympic ski stadium (€5, pay and display, machines nearby) and then walked to the entrance of the gorge passing by the ski jump. The gorge is no longer free (some conflicting information on the internet, possibly dated) - it cost 10€ per person to access via turnstiles. You then walk along a narrow path cut in the rock along the gorge offering some spectacular views en route. When you come out at the end, you have two choices (1) retrace back the same way (2) hike to Kaiserchmarn Alm, refuel, and take a route above the gorge back to the base. (We took the latter, as its offers different vistas with mountains in the backdrop). A very enjoyable experience, about 3 hours to finish.

Beautiful gorge. We were there on Sunday morning in drizzle. So there was not too much going on and we could look at everything in peace and take pictures. You walk next to the water and can enter from both sides. On-site parking is not possible. The nearest car park is at the ski jumping hill. From there, you can walk almost 45 minutes to the entrance. Alternatively, you can drive a carriage. Price is 7,00 Euro per adult and 3,50 Euro per child. However, the carriage does not run until at least €28 per trip is earned. Once you reach the end of the gorge, you can take a hiking route back. Unfortunately, inside the gorge it does not say how long the route is and since you hardly have internet there, we are back through the gorge.

Incredible to walk through, even if it is man-made. Definitely worth the money, even on a wet day.
Alert!: the car park machines work with an app called easypark - make sure you download the correct version through google - the first to appear are scams and lead you to bogus sites which will fraudulently take money from your credit card.

The Partnach Gorge is an absolute natural wonder! The walk through the narrow gorge is impressive, the sound of the clear mountain water accompanies you all the time. Especially the mighty waterfalls and the steep rock faces are spectacular. The well-developed paths make the hike enjoyable, and despite the many visitors, you will always find quiet moments to enjoy nature. Whether in summer or winter, the Partnach Gorge always provides an unforgettable backdrop. Absolutely recommended for every nature lover!

Beautiful route, if it is hot you will find so much cool, Recommendation to go early in the morning because there are few people and you can find parking immediately, also bring a rain jacket because it gets a little wet '.

A great natural event, which provides great pictures depending on the weather. So you can come here more often and have your camera with you. It is partly narrow, dark and wet, but you are rewarded with spectacular impressions.

Must see when in Garmisch! Convenient (paid) parking and then a leisurely walk to the Gorge. You pay an entry fee at the entrance of the Gorge. Dogs are allowed but also cost a minor entry fee. Inside the Gorge is a stable and safe path to walk. The views are breathtaking. Great activity for kids. Do you need a guide? Absolutely not!

When visiting the Gorge is turn around now possible? If not how to return back to the entrance and how long does it takes?

With COVID-19 turning and walking back through the gorge ils not possible. However the Walk back to the entrance is through the forest and it’s lovely. After exiting, the path separates but either way takes you to the entrance.

Can not tell, I was there in August. But guessing it is frozen, as it is quite high above sea level, also the place where the mountains begin. Just check the weather, if the temperature is negative - you have an answer.

I will be in Garmisch partenkirchen in the next week from (21st Dec to 23rd Dec). Wanted to know if
partnach gorge gates will be opened and I can visit it. What can be other places to visit in and around Garmisch partenkirchen to cover in this period.

Hi Harsh,
Good idea, the Klamm is usually open all year, opening 9am-6pm, depends on weather and security!
Other good sights to visit is, the Zugspitze peak when the weather and view is good, and not covered in clouds!
The Eibsee round walk around 1-2 hours nice hike around the lake!
If you like Technologie, the Kochel dam power plant between Kochel and Walchensee!

Greetings from Virginia, USA! I will be visiting my sister and brother in law, who live outside Munich, later this month. My family lived in Heidelberg back in the 80's and 90's. I was at a Boy Scout camp in Garmisch a couple summers and my group hiked the Partnachklamm with intent on summiting Zugsptize on a 2 day hike. The weather turned on the second day, and some kids were not fully prepared and we had to hike back down. I have dreamed for 30 years of finishing that hike. Now in my 40's and an avid trail runner, I would love to make a go of it again. I have been trying to read up on distances and duration of hikes that people have made the summit on this route. I see some hikers made it in 8 hours of hiking with some nice breaks along the way. With some trail running and speed hiking, it seems I should be able to make it in 8 hours or less, given no injuries or sickness, no? I appreciate your post and hopefully I can make this long lived dream a reality in a month or so.

yes there are many sighs and directions in both ways.
The resort Das Graseck is perfect for the Partnachklamm, as you can enter from both sides lower and upper entrance, and even walk above on the Metal Bridge "Eiserne Brücke" which is not part of the official Klamm. This will give you a wonderful insight from above. When you on your way to the resort you have to pass aside the lower entrance on the Partnachklamm anyway. So very close by easy to walk if your walking condition is normal, as it is hilly and a little bit wet sometimes. also dark in some areas of the Klamm. Definitely worth visiting as it is a natural treasure! Have fun...

Braucht man dafür Wanderschuhe oder sind geschlossene Schuhe (Sneakers) dafür ausreichend?

Wenn sie nur durch die Schlucht möchten, am Ende umdrehen und zurück, dann eingeschränkt ja.
Besser sind Wanderschuhe, weil zwischendurch Splittähnlich, teilweise nass und durc den Fels gebrochene unebene Wege.
Regenkleidung, zumindest Jacke und Mütze ist empfehlenswert, da viel Sprühwasser oder einzelne härtere Strahlen von oben kommen.
Viel Spaß in der Klamm.
