A lot of interesting exhibits at this museum. I enjoyed learning about the role shame and honor played in medieval society and was entertained by the ways in which people were humiliated in the past (shame masks, etc). Not too gory so would recommend to anyone.

A must if you spend the day in Rothenburg. Tremendously diverse exhibition. I've never seen anything like this before. Insanely friendly staff.

Torture instruments, shame masks, the history of punishments, of jurisprudence... all this can be seen here and exquisitely chosen. You need at least 2h to capture everything. It takes less time to view the exhibited specimens. Either way, it is worth visiting toilets on site and even small snacks can be purchased. The museum is within the city walls of Rothenburg. Everything within walking distance. Even if you arrive by car, which must be parked in separate parking spaces.

It was worth a visit. Great insights into how criminals were dealt with in the past. Minor errors on my part have been eliminated. Have fun

I read positive guides and reviews, but I didn't understand why. Removed some interesting elements it seemed more a jumble of stuff than a museum. In my opinion expensive ticket for what it offers

The price-performance ratio is not right. There is no clear structure and no scientific analysis. Many topics are taken up again in different places. There are no clear focal points. There is still a lot to be done in terms of didactics!

The museum had lots of information about crime and punishment in the Middle Ages. It was well done without being graphic. Saw several families with elementary aged children who were interested in the displays. The flow of the museum was sometimes hard to follow.

This museum is open daily from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Entrance fee: €9.50. There is a €1 discount for schoolchildren, students and pensioners. Well-made exhibition on the judiciary since ancient times, with a focus on the Middle Ages. Original exhibits such as racks, thumbscrews, executioner's swords... models, documents, images and there is also a special exhibition, currently on treasure hunts. You should allow 1-2 hours. Disadvantage: Not wheelchair accessible. There are a few stairs.

I would say an hour or so. Some of it is quite gory and may not be appropriate for children. Amazing that there are so many items left from so long ago. It was interesting. Glad to be living in this century

Would my husband who will be 60 qualify for a senior citizen discount? If we don't arrive in Rothenberg until late afternoon, how much of the museum could we see if we only had an hour?

the entrance fee for adults would be 7,00 EUR, we also offer reduced entrance fees for pupils (3,50 EUR), college students (4,00 EUR), senior citizens (6,00 EUR) and families (17,00 EUR - 2 adults + children under 18).

Is there a line up to get tickets to the museum (like the Uffizi Gallery, etc)? Is it advised to purchase tickets ahead of time? I have only seen guided tours available but advice here suggests a self-guided is fine.. We only have 2 days in May and I didn't want to be waiting in line for several hours. Thank you all..

you should plan about 1 hour, if you want to get an good overview and don't go into all time consuning details. If you like this topic, probably plan 2 to 3 hours.
