door de hele stad staan allerlei beelden en voorstellingen. de een nog leuker dan de ander leuk om ze tijdens een stadswandeling tegen te komen. deze stond op onze route naar de ratskeller en is indrukwekkend.

Bahkauv is a monstrous creature and there used to be a spring here. During the day, it was used as a place to wash clothes by young girls and poor people. According to a legend, at night, when drunken men made their way home, they woke up Bahkauv, who jumped onto the shoulders and robbed them of every penny in their pocket, a brilliant excuse to return home.

Une des légendes d'Aix la Chapelle, la sculpture du Bahkauv est une des nombreux monuments dans la ville.

„Der Sage nach hauste das Bahkauv in dem Abwasserkanal der Thermalquellen am Büchel, dem so genannten Kolbert. Seine Gestalt glich einem großen Kalb mit einem zottigen Fell. Im Maul hatte es scharfe Zähne, und seine klobigen Augen leuchteten im Dunkeln. Seine Pfoten sahen aus wie Bärentatzen mit scharfen Krallen, und sein Schweif war geschuppt und schleppte auf der Erde nach. Das Bahkauv trug an Hals und Beinen Ketten, die rasselten, wenn es sich bewegte.“ - diese Sage bildete die Grundlage für den 1904 am Büchel errichteten alten Bahkauvbrunnen. Nach der Zerstörung der Brunnenfigur des Bahkauv im Rahmen der Metallspende wurde 1967 auf dem Büchel hier dieser neue Brunnen errichtet.

es auf den Rücken der verängstigten Männer, erschreckte sie fast zu Tode und nahm ihnen ihr letztes Geld aus den Taschen. Nur mit größter Mühe konnten sich die Männer kurz vor ihrer Haustüre von ihrer schweren Last befreien und das Bahkauv (Bachkalb) abschütteln.

The Bahkauv is a fountain that has at it’s centrepiece a sculpture of a Bahkauv. The Bahkauv is a mythical creature from Aachen folklore said resemble a big cat long curved saber-shaped canine teeth and a lizard like tale. A clever feature of the fountain is that the water discharges from various points on the tail of the Bahkauv, instead of a more obvious location such as it’s mouth. It was said to live in the springs of Aachen and harassed drunken men. It’s an interesting landmark and history of the city.

귀여운 괴물인데 ㅋㅋ물개랑 비슷하게 생겼다.
바카우프라는 이름을 가지고있고 정확히 어떻게 피해를 주는 괴물인지는 모르겠다.
괴물이라기에는 조금 귀엽다 ㅋㅋ

A fountain with the impersations of local tale/legend on top. The "monster" from the old stories has been created by the artist/designer and placed on top of the fountain.
If you are on guided tour in Aachen the guide will tell you all about the "legend" of the Bahkauv. (If not well I recommend you do some research/reading on the subject).
Otherwise for those into sculpture it would present extrainterst - for me it was an interesting landmark of the city and opportunity for a few pics.
When in Aachen I recommend you check this out.
If you are on guided tour in Aachen the guide will tell you all about the "legend" of the Bahkauv. (If not well I recommend you do some research/reading on the subject).
Otherwise for those into sculpture it would present extrainterst - for me it was an interesting landmark of the city and opportunity for a few pics.
