We were lucky and could move from pub to pub in good weather. In the end, however, we could not decide where the old really tasted best. Thumbs up!

What a great place to eat, drink and wander round.
We flew to Dusseldorf on route to Dortmund for a football match.
This area is only 10 minutes from the HBF station and has a brilliant atmosphere.
I hope we get to go again

Sounds strange, but an old town that is getting old hits the mark with Düsseldorf. Pretty rundown, and enjoyment while having a beer in the distance. Lives today on the call of old days.

Unfortunately, Düsseldorf's old town has become a NoGo area in recent years. Tourist rip-offs everywhere on the part of the gastronomy (extremely high prices for inferior quality, often card payment not possible, long-established shops give way to fast-food outlets), hordes of groups of men with a migrant background and a shooting audience on weekends, several police teams patrolling the alleys so that the "Normalo" can feel a little safer, garbage and body fluids wherever you look...etc...etc...
I don't understand why politics doesn't intervene here. How can a state capital let its formerly so popular Old Town be so depraved?

Definitely a place to visit, with many restaurants, bars, the rhine river round corner and can get really busy and a variety of sights, bratwurst takeaways and irish bars

The compact Old Town of Dusseldorf is full of interesting buildings. The Marktplatz with the old Town Hall. The Burgplatz with its quirky Schlossturm tower. The crooked-spire St. Lambertus Church. The Neanderkirche. Etc.

The walk through the old town of Dusseldorf is very lively. It is full of terraces and restaurants, with a predominance of Spaniards, Italians and Argentines. There are also classic German breweries. All this contributes to a very lively atmosphere. And if there is a soccer championship, like this time, the atmosphere is incredible.

Walk through the old part of Dusseldorf where there are hundreds of bars and clubs and always a lot of people.
Lots of entertainment and variety of offers to eat and drink.
You can choose any nationality of restaurant to eat… I recommend it

The old town, with the longest bar in the world, offers several pubs and bars and has many facets. It is a popular meeting place after work. A relaxed and happy atmosphere is normal here. If you want to celebrate and love the party atmosphere, this is the right place for you.

No, the Alt Stadt is an area of Dusseldorf filled with bars, restaurants and boat trips on the Rhine can be started here, 7 days a week

We are traveling to Dusseldorf in the middle of June 2017. We have a 2 day planned stopover. We will visit Old town and possibly room there but are interested in some interesting architecture. We would like to stay close to the airport the 3rd day we flight out noonish.

When you arrive at airport catch a train in to the city. A ''Red Bus'' tour originates opposite the station.
If you have luggage there is storage at the station. The tour is the best city tour I have taken in Europe and takes you past everything Duseldorf has to offer. It is only about 15 Euros and well worth it. I have written it up on Tripadvisor. This is a very contrasting city as far as architecture goes and it is worth taking this hop on hop off trip before you make plans for your 3 day stay. I am not aware of airport hotels but I am sure Tripadvisors or Hotel. com sites will help you out with location and price.

Prices for Gluwein vary. They charge a deposit on the glass or mug which you can keep. It depends on the quality of the mug some are attractive but others very touristy. The average 3€ for gluwein plus €5 deposit. Beer around €5

We stayed in Hilden, Dusseldorf....took the train out there, like a sub-burb. Stayed at the Amber Hotel. It's a small chain. Very clean & reliable. Restaurant on site. I think it was 3 floors.
Not sure about B & B's. Parts of Dusseldorf were kind of scary. It was very hard to find anyone who spoke English. Dusseldorf is pretty industrial not touristy, we used the city for a meeting point, to meet family who were already travelling in Germany to go to Alsace to trace our family tree. Alstadt was only a couple of blocks down from the hotel and a nice area, all the restaurants and bars opened up into a large courtyard with open air seating/tables shade very pretty, nice shops that close early compared to usa. On our way back we stayed literally across the large divided street from the Amber Hotel and it was like another world...we didn't sleep a wink! There was a hookah lounge in our lobby......

all shops are closed unless it is a special trading sunday , there is one in november but not sure of the date , some cafe and coffee shops are open but most bars and restaurants are open

Schumacher or Schüssel. Both are on the main street , Bolker strasse. not hard to miss. if arriving by u-bahn or taxi. you arrive on heinrich heine allee. bolker strasse runs onto that allee.
