Un baño de historia

Espectacular, llegué a las 10 de la mañana, cuando abre el museo, y sin saber mucho de Saarbrücken ni del castillo, me llevé un baño de historia gigante, incluidas las ruinas del castillo renacentista que están sobre el actual de estilo barroco. y la historia política de cuantas veces el Sarre cambió de manos en los últimos 250 años.

Gigantic museum!

The specificity of this museum is that it's based on the ruins of an old castle. The visit of the ruins in the basement was already super interesting. But then we entered the main collection of the museum and we were not expecting so much to see! It

sehr umfangreiche Ausstellung zur Geschichte des Saarlandes. Besonders interessant ist der Teil des alten Schlosses im Untergrund. Sehr gute Erläuterungen zu den Ausstellungsgegenständen, durchgehend auch in französisch und fast immer in englisch

sehr interessante Ausstellungsobjekte, die man so nicht überall sieht - Plakate, Gebrauchsgegenstände, Fotos. Nachteil: sehr dicht gedrängt auf wenig Raum, man wird von der Fülle fast erschlagen. Etwas störend, dass überall Hintergrundlärm durch die Dauerbeschallung (laufende Radios mit O-Tönen) ist.

Great historical narrative with emphasis on locality

A very fruitful local historical museum, with good multimedia presentations. I especially love the design of the exhibition hall dedicated to the inter-war era on the one side, and to the Saar Protectorate on the other side. The design is marvelous.
Small criticism on the visiting route: it is a bit difficult to go around the 1870-1914 part because the route is almost a labyrinth. The WW1 part is also a bit confusing: I understand the design assimilating to trenches, but it is quite easy for me (168cm) to hit my head… Please be careful…
The very well-documented part on Nationalsozialismus is the kernel. After a glance of Inter-war period we better understand what «status quo» means: thanks to its special historical status, HMS provides a much more multi-layered story than most other WW2 museums in DE. Please also visit the Gestapo-Zelle. Before entering the room for NS-Zeit, those reading English can grasp a booklet for English texts (I didn’t check the translation though…)
It is nice to see the last part about the Unabhängigkeit-Referendum, but I truly believe that this part (with an astonishing number of political posters on the walls) needs more explanatory texts, especially in comparison with the part about the 1935 Referendum.
Staff really helpful.
There is a live-restoration practice when we visit. Please do not disturb the MitarbeiterIn.

Ein Muss, wenn man in Saarbrücken ist

Dank der Wechselausstellungen ist das Historische Museum im Saarbrücker Schloss immer wieder einen Besuch wert. Die Konzentration auf die Geschichte der Saar-Region und die Integration der historischen Anlage in die Ausstellung geben dem Historischen Museum seinen unverwechselbaren Charakter und ermöglichen einen hohen Erkenntnisgewinn.
Das Bemühen um eine deutsch-franösische Perspektive ist verdienstvoll und sympathisch. Sympathisch auch der freundliche Empfan im Foyer.
Insgesamt geeignet für einen Besuch mit der Familie.

Well worth the visit

The museum has rich and diverse collection of artefacts and tells a vivid story of Saarland region since around IX century. I liked a short movie depicting the firearms of XV century - truly interesting historical reconstruction.
It would be great if more English translation is provided (esp. in the section dedicated to WW2). Ideal visiting time: ~2.5 hours.

Plongée dans le passé de la région

Magnifique, réservant plein de surprises.
J'y suis entré par curiosité et en suis sorti heureux.
Voila un musée qui retrace toutes les périodes de la Sarre, ses coutumes et costumes et se termine par la seconde guerre mondiale et l'holocauste. Une belle reconnaissance des erreurs du passé.
Prendre son temps pour apprendre du temps passé.

Sehr interessante Tour und toller Museumsführer

Wir haben uns die Führung durch die "20er Jahre" sowie durch die "Unterirdische Burg" angeschaut. Wirklich empfehlenswert! Bei der unterirdischen Burg staunt man nicht schlecht und der sehr gute Museumsführer versteht es hervorragend, das Publikum für die vielen spannenden Informationen zu begeistern.

Wir schauen uns auf jeden Fall noch eine Führung an.
